Migrate your network to Fast Ethernet's 100Mbps speed with the EtherFast 10/100 Workgroup Switches. These new compact switches from Linksys offer a new compact design that's perfect for space-sensitive applications. Apply this switching power to your 10BaseT network, and your data traffic efficiency improves several times over. Connect your file server to the Switch's auto-sensing ports, and speed up access time for all your users in just one move. And when you're ready, switch your way to full duplex speeds of up to 200Mbps - the speed is yours! And that's not all! Every Switch includes a complete suite of advanced data error detection and correction features for surefire communication every time. Auto partitioning, data-collision control, signal regeneration, and incoming frame retiming ensure that not a single bit of data is lost, even during heavy network traffic. ...I’ve been scratching my head for hours, wondering what anyone can say about a piece of equipment that simply works, and I have to admit I’m still scratching. Hey – watchit!
I can’t think of anything I have ever owned that is more reliable. It does exactly what it is supposed to, which is to act as a conduit through which a collection of computer network enabled devices will work.
The Linksys Etherfast 5 PortSwitch has 5 x 10 or 100mbps autosensing RJ45 ports for use in a Category 3 or 5 cabled environment, utilising 10BaseT, or 100BaseTX switched half and/or full duplex, technology in a star network topology. The bus topology, which utilises BNC connectors, is not directly supported. (Note: Cat3 cabling = 10BaseT only.) So if used correctly it is as fast as the technology allows.
I cannot think of a single reason why it would...

Great Product Review ofLinksysEtherFast Cable/DSL Router with 4-PortSwitch (BEFSR41)by
joekelly11
Advantages: Price Disadvantages: None
...I had just got ntl 1024k internet installed, and wanted to use it on 3 PCs so I brought this router. And from my experience, I would not hesitate to recomend it to anyone. It was simple, just plug it in and follow the the easy step by step instructions in the setup guide.
It has DCHP IP address assignment to make setup easy for the beginner.
As well as the fact it is iseasy to use. it is a great design, the feet and top make it stackable with other Linksys Etherfast products.
The 4 ports + the uplink port make it very useful if you wish to expand you network in the near future.
However, I have noticed that when I am transferring large amounts of Data the case can become slightly warm. Otherwise another great produnt from a well-know brand....

Advantages: Better than a hub, Well priced Disadvantages: Only 5 ports, yet another damn power adapter!
...they were a myth (ok, I am exagerating), especially below £100. I studied the box carefully. 5 ports. 10 / 100 BaseT, small, funky design, and using full duplex, can acheive 200Mbs! The box explained why a switch is different to a hub, and how you could use one.
I was sold. This product had met all of my expectations (and more on speed), was LESS than I was prepared to pay, and I was holding it in my hands! I could pay for it, and walk out the store there and then, no mail order, online purchase or anything.
I ran home (well, drove) and swapped it out with my 3Com hub. I made sure all of my network cards were set to 100meg, full duplex, and then the test...I copied a huge (650meg cd) from one machine to another... JEEEEEEEESE thats fast!
I gues the only think I miss is the lights which tell me my nework load, but this thing is so fast...

This device is a classic example of taking a simple idea and doing it well, rather than packing it over the top with features and getting carried away with it. It is simply a network router and switch to share an internet connection between multiple... more
