Sharing blueyonder 1 Mb with PC and Playstation 2
Advantages: Excellent set up CDROM, large amount of settings available using web browser, works with a wide range of connection types, compatible with Playstation 2 Network adapter Disadvantages: Cheap light plastic feel, connection status lights are very small

Next was the Playstation 2, this was just a matter of running a long straight wired Ethernet cable across my room to the Playstation. This was a cable I already had for this purpose. You do get an Ethernet cable in the box albeit a short one about 1 metre long. I used the provided cable to connect my PC to the router.
Once I hooked up the Playstation it was able to be online at the same time as my PC. For me this was great and means no fiddling around changing cables when I want to use my Playstation 2 online. It is a far better solution that Windows Internet Connection Sharing as that was tricky to configure for the Playstation 2 and allowing access for it through my firewall.
Also, being on blueyonder the MAC Address clone feature of the router is VERY useful. This allows the router to emulate the MAC address of your PCs Network Interface Card, meaning you don’t have to inform your ISP of the routers MAC address.
All in all I’m amazed how versatile, useful and advanced this router is. I would not hesitate to recommend it to advanced users or people new to networking.

Review of Linksys EtherFast Cable/DSL Router with 4-Port Switch BEFSR41 - router
Advantages: Simple, effective, great value Disadvantages: none
...be easier than with this Linksys unit. Simply reset your cable modem, connect it to the router, power up the router, reset the router and connect your separate computers. The router comes with a short length of ethernet cable to connect it to your cable modem.
N.B. It is important to use the correct RJ45 Cat5 ethernet cable. We tried to use a ethernet 'crossover' cable for one PC and it doesnt work. Purchasing another correct cable solved this. ... ...XP, ME, 98 and Mac OS 9) the system works faultlessly. Broadband internet access is shared on demand amongst the access machines. Advantages: Easy to set up, very reliable, looks nice Disadvantages: Lights on the front panel are the wrong way round
This device is a classic example of taking a simple idea and doing it well, rather than packing it over the top with features and getting carried away with it. It is simply a network router and switch to share an internet connection between multiple computers. The "input" socket for the internet connection is a network (ethernet) connector, so you have to have a modem with a network socket. This is why it is called a "Cable/DSL" router - as the two ... ...with network sockets, so you can just plug this device into them and it is ready to work. WIth ADSL providers things are more complex - most ADSL modems only have USB connectors (no network connectors), and some do not supply one at all, so you are better off getting the slightly more expensive model with the built in ADSL modem. Then you can plug the router straight into your phone line.
Anyway...
The device could scarcely be easier to set up. ...

Advantages: Small, Light and User-Friendly Disadvantages: None
I bought this piece of kit about 2 months ago now as a way to divide my home broadband connection between two PC's. The setup was very straight forward and I had no problems connecting it all up. An installation CD is supplied and has a very user-friendly interface which takes charge of all the setting that are required so all you have to do is sit back a wait for it to complete. It took me about 5 mins to get the whole thing up and running. As for ... ...anything I have found that my broadband now runs a lot better through using this system. In addition to getting onto the internet, the router also provides a LAN system enabling each computer to share files/printers with each other. The router also provides protect against hackers as it has a built in firewall, which helps to block unwanted visitors to your computer. Advantages: Good routing speed, many options, hardly crashes! Disadvantages: Build quality not as good as some other routers out there
...options and was back to Linksys :).
Now with the version 3 of this router out and not the version 2, I'd heard some good comments on this routers stableness, so decided to go for it once more. Third time it was a hit! I plugged it in and hooked up all my pcs to it, did all the nescessary details and reset everything, and it worked like a dream!
There are many options you can choose from including port forwarding, allowing users to open ports for ... ...called DMZ :).
This allows one computer to have all ports opened (thinking dad in mind as he uses lots of p2p apps) it is verry usefull in this situation.
Using this now on NTL and it's not crashed once, only that dam NTL box :(
Would strongly recommend this to any cable or dsl user who are thinking of setting up there own network. ...

Product Information for "Linksys EtherFast Cable/DSL Router with 4-Port Switch BEFSR41 - router" »
Manufacturer's product description
The Linksys Instant Broadband EtherFast Cable/DSL Router is the perfect option to connect a small group of PCs to a high-speed Broadband Internet connection or to an Ethernet back-bone. Configurable as a DHCP server, the EtherFast Cable/DSL Router acts as the only externally recognized Internet device on your local area network (LAN). The router can also be configured to block internal users' access to the Internet. Unlike a typical router which can only share 100Mbps over all its connections, the Linksys EtherFast Cable/DSL Router is equipped with a blazing 4-port EtherFast Switch, dedicating a breakneck 100Mbps to each and every connected PC.If four PCs are simultaneously accessing a standard shared-band-width router, they will only run at one-quarter the speed of any number of PCs accessing the Instant Broadband Cable/DSL Router. Not only will all of your PCs now be able to enjoy your lightning-quick Broadband Internet connection, they will also be able to share internal network data at ten times the Broadband Internet speed. Add it all together and your small network will move along faster than you ever thought possible.
