...I've been using one of these now for 4 weeks (along with a Linn 2250), driving a pair of Linn Akurate 242 loudspeakers. Front end is an Ikemi/Kairn, with Linn Sliver interconnects. I upgraded from a pair of tri-aktiv Keilidhs, and the improvement was incredible. Music seems wider, bigger and deeper - with fantastic vocals, courtesy of the 3k driver array. My only criticism (which I intend to fix by buying another 4200 and going fully aktiv), is the bass is sometimes a little uncontrolled, but only at very high volumes. All in all, this is a beautiful amplifier - spacious, agile, neutral - that really lets the music come through. Unless you're solely into Metallica and AC/DC. this is a great amp; if you're into female vocals, you're in for a particular treat...

Advantages: Top Quality Performance And Sound Disadvantages: Expensive
...If anyone can tell me of a better platform for listening to vinyl than this, I'll eat my hat!
I wanted to get the best out of my large vinyl collection, and having previously owned the popular Rega Planar 3 turntable, the Linn LP12, provided a quantum leap in sound quality and performance.
By purchasing the LP12 in its basic mode, this meant that I could gradually upgrade the power supply, tonearm and cartridge, as and when finance permitted. Advantages: Linn name Disadvantages: Better amplifiers for less money, LK140 is the better option
...I had an LK 85 on loan from a local HI-FI shop, as my power amp had developed a fault.

The LK 85 is not much to look at, but then most other power amps, with the exception of valve power amplifiers are basically a plain box.
The LK 85 comes in a solid good quality box with just an on off switch on the front facia and a small led to let you know that the amp is switched on. You can have any colour you want as long as it is black (as far as I know). The rear facia has a double set of gold plated phono sockets for Bi-Amping and Linns Quirky speaker connections that double up so your speakers can be Bi-Wired. The usual 4 millimeter banana plugs will not connect to this amplifier, you need Linns...
