We are all familiar with the graphics of Windows and some of us competant in configuring the devices under Windows, but when it comes to Linux it's a different story altogether! I've recently installed Linux and initially I hadn't a clue on how to configure this or that, or even use simple graphics files. I must say that the help files of the Linux OS are severely limited and so this book was the only good thing around. It has a very clearly presented introduction into how to get around in Linux when it comes to multimedia. This book has sections on CD-rom configuration, which is more than essential in this day and age; plus graphics card tweaks to get that little bit more out of your graphics card than Windows could. The book has recommendations on which software packages are the best and what they offer to different people. The simple art of joystick configuration in Windows is a nightmare in Linux - I know all too well - but this book gives step-by-step guides with accompanying pictures to ease the process. All in all, a very good book and I definitely recommend it to Linux novices.
