The Linux pocket guide is the second Linux book I brought, its essential a slim down command 'man' page with examples and helpful tips, its a great quick reference book to browse through some simple Linux commands, but don't expect it to provide more obscure vim options or complex shell scripts.
The main advantage Linux pocket guide is it's slim 200 page size, making it a truly pocket sized guide. Although the book is slightly dated (2004) and is written for redhat's Fedora, it works just as well for Ubuntu or SuSE.
I would recommend to buy this book if you find a cheap offer, but for absolute beginners on Linux, a more comprehensive book is needed, such as O'Reilly's Linux / Unix in a Nutshell or A Practical Guide to Linux.
