Licorice allsorts have to be one of my all time favourite sweets; mainly because I love aniseed flavouring (my favouring alcoholic beverage is Penod!). There are many cheaper branded products and... more

Advantages Advantages Tasty sweet, nice textures, not too sweet

Disadvantages Disadvantages grown up taste, not every one like liquorice

That is it. I am going to have to stop trying new things. I really am. I keep on trying all these new things and finding that they are utterly delicious. I have gone from one extreme to another. I used to be such a fussy eater but now I’m like a human dustbin. I can’t think of a single food I can’t stand. I used to be able to say liquorice but I can’t any more. Let me explain. In my quest to try new things I figured it would only be fair to give liquorice a go. I had come across it as a child and hadn’t like it but tastes change. Naturally when I wandered into my local Safeway’s and saw they ... more

Advantages Advantages They do taste nice if the ingredients don't worry you.

Disadvantages Disadvantages A colourful sweet collection containing bovine gelatin and cochineal.

---BASSETTS ALLSORTS--- Bassetts Allsorts have been around since 1899 and Bertie Bassett is the famous jolly mascot made up from a selection of the different liquorice shapes. On his feet he has the round sweet with candy bobbles on with a soft jelly liquorice centre. His legs are made up from the black tube liquorice with the white fondant filling. His body comes in the form of a triple decker sandwich of liquorice and candy and to complete the picture he has liquorice canes in both hands. This little sweet man has brought an old fashioned charm and a sense of fun to the Bassetts Allsorts ... more

    Advantages Advantages Moreish

I’m sitting here, too lazy to cook any tea for just myself, munching my way through a bag of Bassets liquorice allsorts. The shiny black bag with Bertie Basset grinning menacingly out at me claims that these are the best ever. Better than what, I’m not sure, but I like them. Now I know that product history isn’t really necessary but as I’m only copying of the back of the packet I really don’t see the harm: ‘Bassets liquorice allsorts were created by accident in 1899 (blimey that’s a long time ago) Bassets salesman Charlie Thompson was discussing an order with a customer when his tray of ... more

Believe it or not but this old traditional sweet has been with us for 102 years. I guess that would explain why most of us if not all of us are familiar with liquorice sweets. Bassett`s Liquorice Allsorts was first created back in 1899 and the surprising thing was that it was created by accident. A salesman named Charlie Thompson was arranging an order with a customer when his tray of liquorice samples was accidentally knocked over, scattering his sweets everywhere. The buyer in the shop liked the look of the sweets and so he placed an order there and then – and so that was how Liquorice ... more

After deciding I would write a review on these magnificent sweets, I also knew I would have to eat lots as I typed away, and that is what I am doing right now. Eating LOTS. Bassett's Liquorice Allsorts are, too me, the Ambrosia of sweet foodstuffs, the Everest of jaw churning goodness, they are, quite frankly the metaphor of metaphors, they are simply the … best. As the name says, they are an assortment of various liquorice sweets and where discovered on 1899 when a Bassett's salesmen knocked over a tray of different liquorice sweet samples onto the floor. The look was good and the rest is ... more
