I have always tried to look after my teeth and will do anything to avoid the dentist! I have a dodgy wisdom tooth, which hasn't quite come, through my gum and every now and then it gives me pain. So I try to keep the area clean so I don't get any infections, I have tried various mouthwashes over the years but never really felt they were living up to their claims I even used that one (can't remember the brand!) that shows you the plaque in a different colour when you spit out!
A friend of mine recommended this one and said it was the best she had ever used, I decided to give it ago just to prove her wrong!

It has also been used for quite a few other things before it became the mouthwash we know today, the best being a floor cleaner and a cure for gonorrhea!
It wasn't until the 1920's that it became a success as a mouthwash, the Listerine Company basically created the term halitosis and informed every one that this mouthwash was the cure and of course everyone decided they had this new terrible condition and rushed out to buy a bottle of Listerine, clever when you think about it!
They did get in trouble in 1976 as the Listerine people claimed that the mouthwash could help ease sore throats and as a remedy for colds but there was no proof of this and they were forced to drop this and to tell people in their advertising that this was not true. The Listerine brand has certainly stood the test of time and has added a number of different mouthwashes to its range has is now a definite house hold name.
PRODUCT STATEMENT
The most advanced and complete Listerine that has 6 benefits in 1. Used twice daily total care Listerine is proven to clean and protect with 6 benefits of oral health: Reduce plaque, prevent tartar to help keep teeth naturally white, maintain healthy gums, kills up to 99.9% oral bacteria in lab tests, strengthen teeth against decay and up to 24-hour fresh breath protection.
PACKAGING
All the Listerine bottles come in the same sizes either 500ml & 250ml, they also seem to look the same except for the different colour labels for the different ones in the range. This one has a clear bottle that looks a bit flat and you can see the colour of the mouthwash, which is a pinky colour as it is the clean mint one, which I have to say clashes with my blue bathroom! The lid is a basic screw black one which you can pour the mouthwash into if you want.
USING
The directions do state that this product is most effective when used in the morning and evening after brushing, you have to use 20ml and rinse it around your whole mouth for about 30 seconds then spit it out.
So that's what you are supposed to do and because I am such a good girl I followed the instructions! The first thing to tell you about is the smell, to put it politely don't sniff it too much as it made my eyes water! It does smell very antiseptic and could proberly assist in a minor operation!
I then dutifully measured out the 20ml I needed (yeah right!) who actually does that anyway! I poured what I thought was 20ml and then rinsed it around my whole mouth paying particular attention to the back of mouth where my wisdom tooth is. At first when you start rinsing its ok it just tastes a bit antiseptic but the longer you keep rinsing the stronger it gets. I can't really say exactly what it tastes like but it does taste very antiseptic mixed with mint and makes the whole bathroom smell like a hospital! (Well a clean hospital anyway!) I have managed to keep rinsing for the whole 30 seconds with my eyes watering! But all joking aside the more you use this product the more you get used to it and the effects don't seem so bad.
After rinsing and spitting out (Gross!) my teeth and gums feel very tingerly (is that a word?) but the best feeling is they feel very clean in fact I would go as far to say squeaky clean.
As for the 6 benefits I can say that I have noticed that my teeth have certainly benefited, it does seem to reduce plaque and I can sort of feel that on my teeth. My gums certainly feel healthier to the point where before I started using this mouthwash I could suffer from bleeding gums but since using this product that has completely stopped. It certainly does help to keep your breath fresh not that mine didn't smell sweet before using! I can't say that I have noticed my teeth being any whiter but people are now wearing sunglasses when they talk to me! (Only joking!)
The best thing though I have benefited with though is the fact that since I started using it my wisdom tooth hasn't given me any trouble I have had no pain and the gum around the dodgy tooth hasn't swollen at all. So it must be doing some good then.
I have usually buy the bigger size and this seems to last about a month, these also to go on promotion a lot so I stock up then.
WOULD I BUY AGAIN?
I can safely say hand on heart that yes I do buy this product regularly, I seem to try and stock up if it is on offer. As I have said it really does seem to work especially for my gums and the wisdom tooth problem, I have now got used to the taste and smell and it doesn't really bother me anymore although the other half tells me constantly that I have stunk the bathroom out after using the mouthwash and moans that the house now smells like a bloody hospital! Personally I would rather it smell like a hospital than of him!
Advantages: Lovely colour lol, nice taste, lots of protection, not too pricey Disadvantages: Tingly on your tongue after a while
...buy one!) was the newest Listerine mouthwash on the market, which is Listerine Total Care. Listerine is one of the better known mouthwash brands on the market, with a total of 8 different mouthwashes available. Listerine are quite well known for being very strong mouthwashes which worried me slightly, but the new Total Care was labelled as being "mild" so I hoped it would be okay for me!

This ensures it'll catch your eye amongst the usual blue and green mouthwashes on the shelves. As well as the usual information on the label, Total Care boasts 6 key benefits to using it, so I'll now discuss those.
Firstly, the mouthwash claims to help you get whiter teeth. It helps to reduce tartar formation which is what dulls the appearance of your teeth, hence promoting the ...

...excited to find this new Listerine Antibacterial Mouthwash, Stay White version in Sainsbury's a few weeks ago.
It was approximately £2.50 for a 500ml bottle which I didn't think was too bad. We decided to go for the smaller 500ml bottle as opposed to the 1 litre as we never seem to go through a litre bottle and it always stays on the shelf and then I think it won't be that fresh. With the 500ml bottle we will use this quicker although it does have ... ...If you have never used Listerine mouthwash it is very easy to use. Basically you take a mouthful of the liquid, rinse it around your teeth and gums for approximately 30 seconds and then spit out. DO NOT SWALLOW. It contains a lot of chemicals so never swallow it. It says on the bottle to pour some of the liquid into a glass before you drink it but I just use the cap as I find it easier. The nice thing about the cap is that it has a child safety lock ...

...others are not so pleasant, Listerine Total Care works well so I have just learned to live with that clinical taste.
A 95ml bottle will cost you around £1.40, so this is a fairly expensive product. Each time you use the Listerine mouthwash you are supposed to use 20ml, so expect the bottle to last for about 3 weeks.
The pink mouthwash comes in a bottle that looks clinical and efficient.
The instructions tell you that Listerine has six benefits, ... ...my breath fresh. When the Listerine is swilling around my mouth it makes my mouth feel tingly and you can feel the liquid seeping in between your teeth and washing around your gums, you need to swill the Listerine around inside of your mouth vigorously to make sure that it reaches all of the nooks and crannies.
When I have finished my routine of cleaning my teeth and then using the Listerine my mouth feels fresh and that in turn gives me more confidence ...

...to work equally well.
Listerine mouthwashes were one I regularly used so when I saw the Listerine total care on offer at my local convenience store at half price £1.99 for 500ml I thought well why not. I found out once I got home and tried it for the first time that it was very strong in taste and didn't think I would continue using it but as you use it you become used to the initial burn and it turns to a fairly pleasant fresh mint after you rinse.

If you are looking for a new mouthwash because yours is not doing it for you or if you just like to try other products then give this a go it's not brilliant but it is better than a lot of others.

Advantages: Kills bacteria, fresh breath protection, child proof cap. Disadvantages: Expensive, tastes unpleasent, not suitable for children.
-Appearance-
Listerine total is a unique purple colour which immediately put me in mind of bubblegum; I was relieved to find that the it was the same fresh minty taste I had become accustomed to from the regular range. It features a shiny silver label featuring the 6 product's claims. I have included a picture for more information.

-Taste-
Listerine total has quite a strong minty taste. Like other products in the Listerine range, it contains alcohol, so you can feel an unpleasant burn when you start using it. Be sure to spit it out when you're done because it can be poisonous if swallowed.
-Not for Children-
Listerine can be damaging if ...

Advantages: fresh breath, protection for sensitive teeth Disadvantages: very hot
My previous review lost somewhere, so I have to rewrite it?
As we finally ran out of the extremely strong Listerine Arctic Ice mouthwash I decided to buy something lighter, less hot. I went to Sainsbury?s and found ListerineTotalCare Sensitive.
Product, price, wrapper
This mouthwash comes in completely transparent plastic bottle. It contains 500 ml light blue liquid. The label on it is silver on the top then white going into purple. In the silver pert is written with big black letters Listerine, below with small letters Antibacterial Mouthwash. In the white part of the label is written with silver letters TotalCare then below it with purple Sensitive.
I bought it in Sainsbury?s for 4.10 pounds. I am sure you can find it in bigger supermarkets, drug stores and on Internet too. It is manufactured in the EU by Johnson & Johnson ...
Advantages: You know you've been Listerined Disadvantages: You know you've been Listerined
shows up the limitations of brushing alone. Always makes me wonder how long it has been stuck in their, still better out than in.
However, you can not escape the taste. Some will take the "it must be doing me good" view and others the "bad breath is better than that taste" view. Me, I've converted to Mild MInt mouthwash varieties as I like to wake up gradually in the mornings.
Widely available the bigger supermarkets have the best range and prices (don't they always).

Advantages: Great clean feeling mouth Disadvantages: Not a great taste or smell
Listerine Original, it tingles feeling very clean and fresh. My teeth feel very smooth and sparkling after use and I feel like they have a protective coating over them, somehow it makes my teeth feel stronger for about 10 minutes after use. I am not a great fan of the flavour of the Listerine Original, or the smell, being a bit too antiseptic tasting for my liking, but I do feel overall it is worth it for the feeling it leaves in my mouth and over my teeth and gums.
For those of you who just cannot stomach the Listerine Original they have now produced an array of flavours and styles to tickle your taste buds. They now produce flavours such as coolmint, freshburst, cool citrus and soft mint sensation. Also in the range you will find Advanced Tartar Control, Teeth and Gum Defence and TotalCare.
