a higher speed than it would normally be supported at. To do this overspeed relies on SmartWrite. When a disc is written at a higher speed than normal SmartWrite will automatically create a new writing strategy for it. Even if you are not interested in overspeeding SmartWrite offers many other benefits because SmartWrite is also a savior of poor quality media. Many people unfortunately do not realize that not all blank media are created equally. Quality differences exist between brands of media. To cope with these differences a DVD drive keeps an index of supported media and their write strategies in its firmware. If a blank disc of a lesser-known brand is not indexed in a firmware burning this disc may give a poor result. Your hardware is not faulty but it simply cannot handle the media. SmartWrite brings a solution to this problem. You can burn precise silk-screen quality labels with no-hassle while expressing your own style and perspective. Your labels can be whatever you want them to be. The only limitation is your creativity. Create one-of-a-kind designs with your own photos text and artwork using your label-making software. Then burn your labels directly to CD or DVD using the same drive that burns your data. After finishing your design you burn your label in three simple steps: Burn your data (music photos video etc.) with your LightScribe drive. Open the drive and flip the disc over. Burn your LightScribe label using the same drive. It is as simple as Burn-Flip-Burn!LightScribe technology offers many benefits for both personal and professional users: It looks good and extremely professional! LightScribe offers a no-hassle way to burn precise silk-screen quality labels that express each person's unique style and perspective Support Double Layer DVD+/- R9 Recording Function.SMART-BURN avoiding Buffer Under Run error Automatically adjusting writing strategy & running OPC to provide the best burning quality.SMART-X function adjusts CD-DA / VCD / DVD data extraction to a fastest allowable speed according to both data request rate from host and disk quality.ABS system reduce vibration and noise during recording and reading.Support both 8cm and 12cm disc of CD and DVD family. Advantages: Fast, reliable, cheap, reads all sorts of discs, not mega loud. Disadvantages: Before driver update, problem reading a certain disc, just update it!
...This is a great cheap Sata drive, that works perfectly, effectively, efficently, fast, and is reliable.
Being one of the fastest drives in the world (quoted as being THE fastest), this is a pretty good drive! I got 2GB of data writen to a DVD in UNDER 2 minutes, which is increadible, so no problems in terms of speed, that's for sure.
The drive works quiter than other drives, but obviously not silently.
The drive opens and closes fast enough, and starts reading the disc with a reasonably low delay.
The drive comes with Nero software, though I don't really get alone with this software, so I use another piece of software to write CDs and DVDs.
I would recommend you download the latest drivers off LiteOn's website, as I did have a bit of a problem in reading some discs, which installing the latest drivers helped to read them, though...

...Lite-on are a well respected company that have been around for a while.
LITE-ON oringinated from a team of scientist and engineers from ITRI (Industrial Technology Research Insitute) in 1995. LITE-ON Information Technology corportation are constantly devoloping anit-vibration mechanical design, advanced circuit design and increased performance. LITE-ON Information Technology Corporation (LITE-ON I.T.) this was a big part of the LITE-ON group which concentrated on the optical storage devices which then led to the creation on these fine CDROM drives we have today.
This LITE-ON CD-RW is a very good drive and after purchasing one for personnal use I have purchased many more for computers I have built for friends and family. Very easy installation, driver support is excelent.
With dvd-rw's coming down alot in price recently I would...

Advantages: Fast burning, can copy nearly anything Disadvantages: Er.. boring fascia??
...I was looking to upgrade my 16x burner to something with a little more punch. My friend's dad had bought a Lite-On 24x speed burner and it came highly recommended.
After a little more research, the 40x Lite-On seemed the way to go, and for a reasonable price.
Once it had arrived, I opened the bright red box and peered in. Contained within was the drive itself, 4 screws to install in it your system case, an audio cable, an 80-minute CD-R, an 80-minute CD-RW, a CD containing Nero Burning Rom and the instruction manual (useless till you install the drive of course!), and a slip of paper containing basic installation procedures.
No IDE cable is included with this drive, so unlike some manufacturers, Lite-On expect you to be replacing another CD drive, or have a spare connector already available.
Installing the drive is no hassle...
