...I have owned this lite-on drive for about six months now and its reliability is amazing.In that time I can honestly say I have only had five failures whilst using it. I bought it from a local retailer,quite cheaply as it has been superceded by a new model. I am a bit of a computer buff but by no means hand on panels off stick it in there sort of person.So I was going to ask a mate to do it for me. Well to cut a long story short I got impatient looking at the box and decided to have a go at fitting it. What a doddle,it took longer for me to work how to take the side panel off the pc than it did to fit the device After removing the pc side panel and gauging just where this unit would fit also knocking out the false fromt facia.I slid the unit into position and secured it using the 4 screws provided. Advantages: Cheap, can be made multi-region. Works well. PC Pro Best Buy
Disadvantages: Doesn't alter the fact that dual layer media is not cheap! Possible dual-layer compatibility issues with home DVD players

...to mind alongside LiteON. On closer inspection of the small print on the case, LiteOn does indeed turn out to be a Taiwanese division of JVC. LiteON does have one advantage over the 'rest' and that's the existence of a little utility programme called "LtnRPC.exe" which is a free download from the web, and therefore, no doubt very little to do with LiteOn themselves. This file only important if you watch movies on your PC, and if your DVDs come from more than one DVD 'region'. Regions were intended to carve the Earth up, geographically, with the intention of gearing DVD movie availability to real movie circulation, usually resulting in the DVD being issued some time after the box-office returns have been milked for all they're worth. ...Lite-on are a well respected company that have been around for a while. LITE-ON oringinated from a team of scientist and engineers from ITRI (Industrial Technology Research Insitute) in 1995. LITE-ON Information Technology corportation are constantly devoloping anit-vibration mechanical design, advanced circuit design and increased performance. LITE-ON Information Technology Corporation (LITE-ON I.T.) this was a big part of the LITE-ON group which concentrated on the optical storage devices which then led to the creation on these fine CDROM drives we have today. This LITE-ON CD-RW is a very good drive and after purchasing one for personnal use I have purchased many more for computers I have built for friends and family.
