...I have owned this lite-on drive for about six months now
and its reliability is amazing. In that time I can honestly say I have only had five failures whilst using it.
I bought it from a local retailer, quite cheaply as it has been superceded by a new model.
I am a bit of a computer buff but by no means hand on panels off stick it in there sort of person. So I was going to ask a mate to do it for me.
Well to cut a long story short I got impatient looking at the box and decided to have a go at fitting it.
What a doddle,it took longer for me to work how to take the side panel off the pc than it did to fit the device
After removing the pc side panel and gauging just where this unit would fit also knocking out the false fromt facia.I slid the unit into position and secured it using the 4 screws provided.
It was at this point I consulted...

Advantages: Mt Rainier compatible; Fast data transfer; Lots of writing speeds Disadvantages: Loud; Poor performance with some discs; Small buffer
...In the race for fastest CD rewriter on the block, LiteOn released the 48125W, a beast of a drive managing 48x read/write and 12x rewrite. To get past the initial 40x write boundary they implemented a new technology called CAV - Constant Angular Velocity. Instead of varying the disc speed as the laser moves across it, the 48125W varies the data transfer rate instead, so it actually starts writing at 22x and finishes at 48x.
~Connections and Physical Appearance~
The drive comes with your usual backplate connections, such as IDE interface, power, master/slave/CS jumper and both analog and digital audio connectors. The front of the drive isn't anything special, but you'll notice it only has one LED. This lights green for reading operations, and red for writing operations.
~Installation~
I had no problems installing the 48125W...

Advantages: Fast Burner, Easy to Install and very cheap you cant go wrong Disadvantages: NONE
...The Lite On drive is very easy to install on your computer. simply connectt up the data cable, power lead and fix the unit into the compartment with a few screws.
The CD Drive is automatically detected by Windows and once you have installed it's a simple matter of installing the relevant software.
The great thing is you also recieve a copy of Nero which lets you burn data to CD's and create music CD's.
I've burnt dozens of different brands of discs at a variety of speeds, and not had a single error. I am very impressed with the drive the write speed is amazingly fast.
Summary: The best priced and most reliable CD writer i have ever bought. Not a well known brand but defiantly an excellent product....
