I have used it to play dvd's and music cd's with no problems. Will burn DVD's at 8x without a hitch and I am yet to get a coaster from the LiteOn. I have updated the firmware from the official site with no problems at all. For the price, they are excellent. and I would highy recommened on if you are looking for a multi burner. will write to dvd-r, dvd+r, dvd-rw, dvd+rw, cdr. cdrw. Writes at a maximum 12x for dvd+r and 48x for cd's uses smart burn to limit the chance of burning a coaster. Comes with Nero 6 burning software.... LiteOn SOHW-1633S - Personal Experience Review of LiteOn SOHW-1633S by nemesis2004 Advantages: Fast and Cheap! Disadvantages: Pathetic Manual & Dies after a few months ...The drive itself features a headphone socket and a volume control, but no play/stop button - only an eject button. The drive's capabilitys are about what you should expect - supporting up to 16x DVD-R write speed meaning it can write a full sized single layer DVD in about 6 minutes. DVD-Rs can be written at 8x, 4x for DVD-RW and DVD+RW and about 2.5x for Double Layer. The actual figure is a little bit less than this, according to my benchmarks however not drastically. CDs can be written at 48x for single-write and 24x for re-write. It features SMART-BURN, avoiding errors - which is used in many modern DVD and CD drives I bought my LiteOn SHOW-1633S about 8 months ago. During the first 5 or 6 months, I had no problems - the drive was very fast and stable. All my DVDs and CDs came out perfectly! I used various brands and the drive had...
