Advantages: Many features.
Disadvantages: DVD write gradually stops working until even DVD reading of pre-recorded disks stops.

...From reading the specifiaction, this machine should be capable of taking the place of many other AV units in one compact unit. It can record to Hard drive, download movies using firewire, write DVDs and load mp3 files. However, the DVD writer gradually stops working until even DVD reading of pre-recorded disks stops. The warranty has up to know proved useless as Lite-on seem unable to collect the device after 4 attempts and over 1 month of trying. Writing to hard drive always takes two attempts as I receive a write error failure. This means timed recordings fail. If Lite-on were more competent in their customer services then perhaps I could recommend this unit, but until I receive a satisfactory outcome I can't.... Read review

Advantages: Low cost
Disadvantages: Dodgy menus, very disk fussy, lousy DVD burner that will fail.

...Dodgy menus that jump back to the previous screen, a very temperamental DVD burner that gives up after about 100 uses. The unit records well to hard disk, with good quality. Editing is a bit hit and miss, with no real fine control. No way of making recordings exactly fit the disk. My biggest gripe is the DVD burner, which really isn't up to it. It's extremely fussy over media type and if it doesn't like a blank disk, it seems to have the nice touch of rendering it unusable. Eventually the DVD burner in mine gave up all together after ruining 14 disks. Upgrading the firmware doesn't solve the problem. I eventually replaced the DVD burner in mine with a Liteon 20X unit for about £16. This solved the problem, and for the moment, it's been working perfectly. Fitting a replacement burner is straightforward enough, though getting it to neatly... Read review
