Little Tikes Slide

Little Tikes Slide

My purchase

My daughter is aged 8 now, but for Christmas when she was aged two (three in January), we felt that she had enough indoor toys and we wanted to concentrate on the garden play side of things. My Mum bought her a Little Tikes playhouse, My Dad bought her the Little Tikes climbing frame, and amongst other things, her Dad and I purchased this slide.

Little Tikes

Little Tikes was formed as a company in 1970 and along with their catchphrase 'Get up and Grow' are renowned for their durable and imaginative toys which are above all, fun. Some of their products are design icons and are instantly recognisable as being LT - the cosy coupe for example.

We purchased this from Toys 'r' Us at the time, and because we had purchased the playhouse, and the climbing frame at the same time, we were offered free home delivery. On arrival we were eager to get things set up, and seeing the big box, we were initially daunted, but assembly was simple and was a one man job. I got my other half to do it while I made a cuppa, and when I came back it was done. Why can't everything be so easy?

The ladder section of the slide is solid and sturdy due to the extra wide base; this stops the slide from rocking on slightly uneven surfaces, and a great safety feature. The steps have a grip, non slip texture to them, which is doesn't hurt little feet if they are too eager to get socks and shoes on, an occurrence that happened on a regular basis in our house. The side posts where you hold as you climb the ladder are quite chunky and easy to maintain a hold onto - no worries there then.

The slide has a flat section at the top, with plenty of room for little legs to manoeuvre onto the seating section, and as you slide down, the sides are somewhat enclosed, to prevent accidents happening. There is only one way to go with this slide, and that is down. The slide has a nice angle to it; it's not too fast, but not too slow as to remain a toddler toy.

When you have slid down, you again come to another flat section. This is raised off the floor, and so the child can get up from a seating position, rather than scrambling around on the floor.
My thoughts

Although my daughter has now grown out of this slide, it has been passed on to my niece. She is now coming up to six, and although she's a little dot, and can still play on this, is doesn't hold much appeal now - she prefers something a little more daring. This toy is now six years old and although faded from being outdoors most of the time, it still performs well, and could easily be passed down a few more children yet. I got more than my money's worth from this slide, from seeing by daughter enjoying herself, and being entertained; the fact that other children hve also benefitted as it gets passed along, is a bonus.

In Summary

In summary, this is an expensive purchase initially, but has great play value and it would be the perfect addition to any garden and something that would give any child a great amount of pleasure.

Slides seem to be overpriced for me. So the man of the house bought one for our eldest and he came up with a cheap gem! Great review.

When buying a slide for my daughter, I was astounded by the price of them for what they are. i found one on ebay in the end for 15 quid! :D
