I hate to say this but Granny picked up this Little Tikes Rocking Horse in a local charity shop for the bargain price of £1.50. Even though it was a pre-owned toy, our Little Tikes Rocking Horse is in premium condition and ready to be used for several more years.
~~ FEATURES ~~
This Little Tikes rocking horse is ready for children to play with straight out of the box, so Daddy/Grandpa doesn't have to go mad putting it together. It is a simple toy, made out the same lightweight moulded plastic seen in many toys from Little Tikes; so there are no screws or parts, which could come lose. It isn’t mechanical either so we don't need to purchase any batteries - very economical.
The horse, teal in colour, is approximately three feet long, with the head of a horse and mane, two easy-grip plastic covered handles in a golden yellow colour, on either side of the head for Christopher to hold on to and stay secure.
It features a built-in saddle with a high back backrest so Christopher can lean back and it supports his weight and prevents him from falling off backwards, making him feel secure whilst riding. This snug seat is approximately 9 inches across and with it being only 7 inches from the floor; even the smallest of young toddlers should be comfortable on this horse. It stands about 2 feet high (from the base to the body) and is an easy on, easy off, toy for your toddler.
There is a "rocking base" area for my “little tike’s” feet. The rocking base measures approximately 3 feet from end to end & approximately one foot across at its widest point. Christopher’s can rest his feet on either the floor or on this rocking base during use.
While this horsey seems to be lacking a mouth and other features, (it does have simple black and white eyes), the mane and tail are sculpted into the horse's plastic body. From a distance, it does look like a horse, though a strange coloured one at that!
Since this is a solid plastic unit, it is very easy to care for and clean. We simply wipe it with a damp cloth and it is ready to be used again!
The Rocking Horse is big enough to fit a child from about 12 or 18 months until 4 or 5 years of age.
~~ STORAGE & ROCKABILITY ~~
This rocking horse is small enough to fit in your cupboard. There's nothing to fold up, so what you see is what you have to store.
It rocks on practically any type of surface. The best surface to place it on is a carpet or rug (as it won't rub the bottom of the horse or damage your expensive laminate/tile flooring), allowing it to sway smoothly and for safety’s sake in case your toddler falls off, the carpet will be a soft landing.
~~ MANOUVERABILITY ~~
The horse is easy to move around: Granny’s two year old niece can easily move Christopher’s horse around on the cement or grass so it is in the position which suits her best.
~~ SAFETY ~~
One of the tricks we learned about this toy is to keep it on some sort of carpeting. If it is on a hard floor or concrete for that matter, it can take off! We are always aware of the danger of it sliding down stairs or off of uneven surfaces if used outside. So please, be careful when you do use this item.
There are no small parts to worry about with this toy: the handles are very secure so they won't come out and hurt Christopher. The eyes also seem securely attached.
This stallion is fairly close to the floor, so if Christopher does fall out, he won't get hurt.
Be careful your children don't use their Little Tikes Rocking Horse as a stepladder to reach whatever is out of their grasp, making the horse unstable and very dangerous.
Although it is safely designed, we still keep an eye on Christopher. We must reiterate: we have NEVER seen this toy tip over during use; we merely watch to assure ourselves of his safety.
~~ THE FIRST HURDLE – THE DOWN SIDE ~~
Christopher has played this toy since he was about 9 months old. We wouldn't say it was truly appropriate for him at that age, but he liked to play with it anyway (always supervised, of course.) He really wasn't able to use it properly. We have to sit him on the horse and gently rock him. As he gets older, he is attempting to “ride” the horse himself.
~~ THE BOTTOM LINE ~~
We got a major bargain on a horse that doesn't eat, sleep, or relieve itself! Little Tikes has kept this one simple, but it lives up to their high standards. As a Little Tikes toy, we’re assured of it's quality construction and know that even though it was a toy loved by someone before us, the Little Tikes Rocking Horse is still safe and ready to play on. It's fun, easy to use, and very sturdy. So, the next time your child asks for a pony, check out the Little Tikes Rocking Horse, and buy them a horse today!
