...as helpful and quick as Lloyds TSB have been. That insurance policy is for more money.
I have to praise them for their fast efficient and polite service. I was fortunate enough to be able to continue my payments, some may not be in that postion and I can only imagine the distress that this could cause.
When I initially took out a loan with the (as was then) T.S.B. The very helpful manager informed me that sickness/unemployment insurance was obligatory. I argued this point with him and pointed out that if I were to become unfit for work that for the first six months I would receive my full salary and therefore they would expect me to continue paying the agreed monthly amount.
I went on, as I can, to explain that this would be reduced to half my salary and that the lender would still expect payment. If, God forbid, I were to die then my next of kin would receive 2 years salary and the debt would be paid off.
He assured me that this was wrong, after 15 continuous days of sickness or unemployment that they would take over payments as long as medical certificates or evidence of unemployment were provided. ‘Yes but! ‘ I cried, ‘I have an ongoing medical condition which would probably be the cause of any infirmary.’ I was informed that as my previous attendance had not been hampered then this would not matter.
Yeah! I thought, sure. The cheeky bleeders then lend you the insurance premium and charge you interest on it.
Early this year we get to crunch time. I was admitted to hospital suffering form a collapsed lung (nothing to do with my emphysema but in the same area). When it became apparent that I was not going to return to work as speedily as I thought I sent for the claim forms.
These, unfortunately, required my doctor to complete a section but he was on holiday for a month! I rang them to explain this and was told by a very helpful female assistant (I wish I had her name to thank her) told me not to worry this would not affect my claim. She also told me not to bother sending them in the pre-paid envelope but to take them to my branch who would forward them through their internal courier system.
Hang on! They have lost some forms before that way. I did as instructed and two days (yes only two) I received a letter explaining that the money would be in my account within the next seven working days. It was!

Advantages: Sometimes Helpful Disadvantages: They offer services you cant actually have.
...Horse Finance (an affiliate of Lloyds TSB) The information that was sent to me stated that being a valued existing loan customer that they would guarantee I could have a loan of £3,000 and at the time being in debt I thought what a good way to reduce how much I have to pay as the amount offered would have covered my debts and allowed me a little extra. So I telephone my local office of Black Horse Finance and confirmed that as a valued existing customer ... ...fooled by the gernerosity of Lloyds TSB and its affiliates. After all their right hand does not know what their left is doing and their promises and assurances are not worth anything.
Always read the small print and check out your options before applying for a loan and I would advise you definately don't try Lloyds TSB. ...

Advantages: Why pay interest when you don't have to Disadvantages: Junk mail will follow
Some Years ago we decided we needed a new sofa, 2 to be precise. We shopped around & the best one we found was at Jessops (known as John Lewis). Unfortunately at the time our cash was tight & we could not afford £1000 up front.
We happened upon DFS, you know the store on TV that always has a sale that must end on Sunday. Well they had some sofas that were returned unwanted by a previous customer & were on sale for £1000.
We enquired about how to ... ...buy now pay later over 3 years Interest Free!!!.
We elected to defer starting payments for 6 months, but you can elect upto 12 months & we paid the loan over 2.5 years. At a cost of about £30 per month we paid the £1000. Now if we had paid in one go, the loss of interest to us by taking £1000 from a typical savings account that offers say 4% interest would be £120 over the 3 years we elected for. If you went for the full 4 years of the loan it would ...

Advantages: Lloyds TSB generally give immediate decisions on requests for credit. Their customer service in-store can be variable, although their city centre stores tend to be more efficient, with less queuing than in those of other branches. Disadvantages: They can be irresponsible when giving credit, and quick to chase it up when payments are missed. They lack flexibility in their decisions, and their correspondence can come across as aggressive. Their call centre staff can be less helpful than branch staf
...from my account, I phoned Lloyds to extend my overdraft by the £10 needed to cover it. This was authorised and I was assured that the extension to my overdraft would be immediately effective. Over a week later I recived a letter stating I had been charged an overdraft excess fee of £20; the overdraft extension had not been actioned despite the bank's assurances. I immediately phoned the bank, providing them information only the account holder could ... ...used five weeks previously and asked me what it was for and the amount. On each loan agreement it says "loan insurance (if eligible)". On both occasions he took out the insurance, he was by their own definitions not eligible for the vast majority of the insurance he had purchased. Furthermore, when he took out each loan he asked if he would be able to close them down and repay them at any time. ... ...mention that he would lose the insurance costs of £500 & £300+ if he did so, as these are considered integral to the loan and have to be discontinued with heavy penalties.
The best advice has to be - get these insurances from someone independent, don't buy them from Lloyds. ...

Advantages: Fine if you keep paying at their rates Disadvantages: Not helpful at all, and more than willing to add to your financial burden!
My husband and I took out a personal loan with the Black Horse two years ago, for ten thousand pounds for our caravan, we have paid without fail every month £118.00
This year in December my husband lost his job, we started getting into financial difficulty and I phoned to speak to them about our situation, as we were building our own house at the time, we had quite a lot of money in our account… but we were living in our caravan but we knew that ... ...pay bills this money would not last long and the budget to pay for the work we were having done was slipping away pretty quickly! The girl listened to what I had to say regarding our situation and the offered to reduce the payments to £95 a month? Not a lot of leeway there eh!
I ended up spending ages on the phone 0845 numbers… In the end I was offered a payment plan for three months of £24 but they put a £90 charge on our account for the privilege! ...

Advantages: Online Loans very quick, easy and hassle free Disadvantages: Possibly too easy to get your hands on the cash
every case when you got a quote this wasnt the rate applied. To get this rate i had to borrow enough money that i could afford to be personally fed truffles by David Beckham in The Palm resort in Dubai.
However when i entered my loan amount, under 10k, i found that the APR was almost exactly the same from one company to the other and only amounted to pennies difference each month.
Having realised the actual cost element was virtually identical i decided that my other requirement was the firms reputation and also the ease of actually using their website. Due to banking with LloydsTSB i decided that they would be my first point of call to obtaining the car of my dreams that i would drive off into the sunset clutching a beautif......sorry, got carried away with my writing.

Advantages: Can take 2 months payment break per year. Disadvantages: Takes ages to get mistakes sorted, even when not your fault
My husband andI took out a loan tin April 2006 hrough one of Lloyds TSBs sister companies, Black Horse Finance. We wanted the money to pay off another more expensive loan and pay for our wedding in June 2006.
We were more then happy when we were offered £4000 as that would pay off the outstanding loan that we had and leave us with around £1000 towards our wedding.
We were also very happy when we were informed that would receive 3 months where we wouldn't have to pay a penny off the loan at the beginning of the loan period, and that we were entitled to 2 further months payment breaks per year. The breaks would be added to the end of the loan period. This means that you end up paying off your loan over a longer term, but you can have a bit off extra cash if needed. Great at Christmas time.

LloydsT.S.B. Is a nation wide bank, it offers a very good range of services, and they are on the web.
LloydsT.S.B. can also arrange loans, help with mortgages, personal investments and so much more.
They also offer a full range of savings accounts starting with an ordinary cheque account, which is suitable for paying bills and direct debit payments right up to high interest savings accounts.
What I most like about them is that I can access my account 24 hours a day through the internet, plus the security is good. Also the staff and customer service are always very polite and friendly. ...
