Quality Home Cinema on a budget??

Advantages: Stunning stereo music playback at the price
Disadvantages: Surround sound steering could be better

I purchased this receiver to match my NAD T550 DVD player as part of my Home Cinema set-up. The first impression on removing it from the box was that it looked more like a piece of military equipment than hi-fi. The unit is quite heavy for it's size but is easily moved around on the hi-fi rack. The provided instructions take the form of a book. Extremely comprehensive! I spent hours reading them! This, in itself, could be a little off-putting for a complete novice. However, if you persist, there is a full explanation on every single function available. Connecting up was very straight forward. The power cord is not the detachable type (like a kettle) but is built in to the receiver so you cannot swap it for a upgrade. Speaker terminals are the plastic screw-down variety although there are removeable caps to allow banana ...

Review of NAD T751

(Fairly) big bangs on a budget

Advantages: Great value for money
Disadvantages: Only entry level sound

with S-Video and component in and out. Extra set of composite and sound on the front make it easy to connect a digital camera or camcorder to your TV. Picture quality is fair for the price. The manual is comprehensive and really quite well written. I saw someone mentioned that the next model up (T751) didn't have a removable mains lead (like a kettle plug). Nor does this one BUT, and here is where the Hi-Fi selling experience comes in - don't do it!!! I have seen people buy a mid range product, (wether amp, CD/DVD player doesn't matter) and add a £300 mains lead! This is totaly stupid. Add the price of the lead and the original product and you could buy a vastly superiour product. If the mains lead makes any difference to the way something performs, you are suffering delusions - go see your doctor, not your Hi-Fi dealer. And please ...

What's going on 'ear then?

Advantages: Small, compact and easy to use
Disadvantages: Small, compact and easy to lose

BACKGROUND Many years ago I lived and worked in London. This left me with two lasting habits, a propensity to wear big hats - if you're not driving a car you can - and a love of walkmans.... actually it's not so much a love of walkmans more a complete obsession, I can't travel without one. A little light music makes public transport an enlivening and enjoyable experience. In fact, with the right music, you can make the daily commute feel like a bit part in a music video or even a film rather than the hideous manky grind it really is. Ok, so it might be me - I have a tenuous grip on reality at the best of times and early in the morning before I've even seen or smelt, let alone tasted, a cup of coffee is definitely not the best of times - but putting my warped view of the world aside for a moment I'm sure you understand where I ...
