Great rates
Review of Harpenden Building Society by Expired-Account

Advantages: Great rates, easy to set up
Disadvantages: Far away

...be set up at the Harpenden Building Society, only a few hundred miles from our place and about two from my uncle's. Now, I can't comment on opening my original account but when I became eighteen I had to convert my account to from a 18 Club Account to a 21 Club Account. The procedure was very simple. I received a letter from the building society listing my options i.e. converting my account to a 21 Club which gives you the option of continued 5% ...

STAFFORDSHIRE TESSA WAS A GOOD INVESTMENT
Review of Staffordshire Building Society by rbeaky

Advantages: mutual, great product
Disadvantages: only open to people in area, accounts are now closed

...provider Money£acts announced that the Staffordshire Building Society TESSA’s has given one of the best returns to its members over the last five years. As a Tessa holder this has of course pleased me. Money£acts revealed, if you had put £9,000 in the Staffordshire Building Society TESSA, which was place 6th in the table then you would be £662 better off than if you had invested with the worst. Although Tessa's are now closed I have written this ...
...a whole and the current financial services market. Interestingly no high street banks appeared in the top 20 which was dominated by regional building societies and embarrassingly for the clutch of PLC’s who gave up their mutual status Bradford and Bingley was placed highest at 33rd. I am not surprised that the best performing TESSAs are predominantly provided by building societies. It is also worth noting that none of the major banks, and in particular, ... Read review

Review of Nationwide Building Society by flupen

Disadvantages: they may say no!!!

...that you recognize. The Nationwide Building Society offer both secured and unsecured personal loans that can be used for almost any purpose. Secured loans are secured on your property, whereas unsecured loans are not. You do need to be over 18 to apply, but you do not need to be a Nationwide customer. Its possible to apply for a joint loan or a single applicant loan and your income must be greater than £400 month. If you do decide to go into the ...
...polite and courteous. They ask you about your income and your outgoings and then work out if you can afford to repay any money they might lend you. They will not lend you money if they feel that you will not be able to pay it back. This might seem obvious but you only have to see how much debt some people are in to know that this is not the policy with all companies. The staff will assist you in filling out the application form, which is one double ... Read review

I was treated as an individual.
Review of Freedom Finance by nessie3105

Advantages: Fast response; Personal circumstances taken into account.
Disadvantages: Fees / Comission

...impressed by the work that Freedom had already done to prepare a loan. The representative had already found a loan and made a point of assuring me that my maternity leave would not be a problem as he had only looked into loan companies who he knew would accept this. AT LAST, SOMEONE WHO UNDERSTOOD AND HAD ACTUALLY LISTENED TO MY PERSONAL CIRCUMSTANCES!!! The rate was 10.3%, higher than Alliance, but less than the rate offered by Promise. Dominic ...
...the paperwork had arrived. Interestingly, Freedom Finance did not even need confirmation of my husband's accounts (he is self employed) and were able to sort the loan out based on my salary alone. The other companies could not even offer us a loan based on both wages. Freedom also seemed to need less paperwork than the other companies. Dominic kept us informed of the progress of the loan and he was always available to talk to if I needed to contact ... Read review
