I see it more as a 'fashion' item really. For a small bedroom, to run along side my PS3 for films, games and CDs, it's ideal.
It was packaged well, with the light bubbly foam stuff protecting the speakers themselves, and polystyrene to hold the cables in place etc.

The input speaker is the 'right' one, and there is a sliding switch on the front of this where you can choose 'game, movie and music' which slightly adjusts the settings for the best sound for the required scenario.
The remote is small and neat, easy to use, and admittedly easy to loose - here you can adjust Bass, Treble, Volume and you can use it to put it on standby. I already lost it once, but I've found it again. If you lose the remote, you cannot change the treble - and apparently it is super expensive to replace.
There is a circle panel also on the front of the right speaker, you can use this to adjust volume (top and bottom buttons) and adjust bass (left and right buttons) - these options are clearly marked out.
It's a shame writing a review on here, because presents are supposed to be secretly priced! I would personally say they are not much worth more than £70... but then it depends on what your personal requirements are for this device. For kids it's easy to set up and use, but there is also that knowledge that the remote is easy to loose.
23/07/08 ADDITIONAL: If kids are connecting it themselves, then I would suggest no younger than 8 or 9 years, as long as they follow the instructions carefully (kids are more advanced at reading now-a-days because of reading menu options in game console games!!)
I am not sure about the connection side of things, they seem a little messy - you have an adapter where you need to use this to divide the video socket, the left sound and the right sound.
Mine is set up using the connection that came with the speaker (white and red, turns into one lead to connect both into the right speaker) and then the yellow straight into the telly. My telly has one scart, so I think that was the only way really - the messy part is that the yellow lead was all on its own attached to the scart. I think it's my old telly that brought about this 'messiness'.
Cables included are, as mentioned, the red and white sound for the right speaker. Attached to the left speaker is the cable to connect to the right, the 'left' output. Obviously you have your power that connects into the right, that connects into a 'power pack', and a lead that connects from power pack into the 'mains'.
Having said all that - I recently brought, and reviewed, my new television: the KDL-20S3000 Sony Bravia.
This works well the connections, and they are no longer messy. I have the red and white sound connections plugged into the back of the sound outputs on the TV, and this works a treat.
Thanks for reading my review, if you have anything you want to ask me, feel free.
Katie.
23/07/08 ADDITIONAL: There is also a connection included where you can plug in handheld devices through their headphone port. I.e. Personal CD Player, IPod, or whatever. Anything with a headphone connection, you can connect the speakers to.
