Logic Oral Hygiene Gel. One of the joys of having a daughter for a vet is really getting to understand which animal products work, and which are a lot of money for very little benefit. This is helped along by the occasional gift of some product nearing its use by date, which is always very welcome in our house! Logic Gel dog and cat toothpaste is a gem of a product, which I came across primarily as a freebie donated by my daughter, as it was nearing the date it could be sold to clients. As it happened it couldn't have been more appropriate, as one of my cats, Lily. had just been to the vets ... more

Advantages Advantages Prevents tartar build-up and doggy breath

Neelix the dog, as well as being the world’s greatest dog, is something of a gap-toothed gypsy. His teeth are in a shockingly poor state which has largely been caused by neglect in puppy and adolescent years combined with a wet food diet (before I got him). As soon as he came to live with me I got him on to a mainly dry, high quality diet and took him to the doggy dentist to assess the damage. The results weren’t good: on his first visit he had to have quite a few teeth out with some being so rotten that the vet was able to simply pull them out by hand. On subsequent visits he’s had to have a ... more

Advantages Advantages The cat loves it, you can feed it to them off a finger

Disadvantages Disadvantages More effective on some cats than others

Not too long ago my cat, Snoopy, had to go to the vet to have a couple of teeth removed. I spent the whole day worrying over him, and was so relieved to get to the vet in the evening to pick him up. The relief didn't last for long. While I was cooing over Snoopy and tickling his chin through the bars of his carrybox, I became aware that the vet was saying something awful to me. "...and as well as changing his food, you'll have to brush his teeth of course." Let me tell you a little bit about Snoopy. He's five years old, and he's a big cat. He's not fat, he's just huge. He was the runt of his ... more

Advantages Advantages not too tacky, comes with a good finger tooth brush

    Disadvantages Disadvantages a little tacky

I try to be a good pet owner, and having a cat who has had really bad gum disease and needed some teeth pulling out, I decided when we got our puppy last year that I was not going to let the same thing happen to him, so I looked at getting him a toothpaste. This particular toothpaste can be used by dogs or cats, and I prefer it to a tube of Virbac toothpaste I bought just for the cats. This came in a 70g tube, which was sent to me in a cardboard tube like the toothpaste I buy for the humans does. I bought this from the vetuk website. The cost of this gel currently is £6.23. I didn't think that ... more

    Advantages Advantages It works

Disadvantages Disadvantages Hard to apply sometimes

I almost laughed when my vet told me that my cocker spaniel Eddie needed toothpaste and that I or my husband needed to be the one to brush his teeth with it. Had he seen my Eddie, a lovely full of energy, tail always wagging, always bouncing, just grown out of being a puppy, dog? I love Eddie but he will not sit still for anything, well maybe a treat but then he is off again so to actually get ones hand inside his mouth to brush his teeth was going to be very difficult. Eddie had quite a build up of plaque on his teeth and apparently this is quite common in his breed of dog. We do give him ... more
