Advantages: well priced Disadvantages: A bit larger than most modern scanners
...If you are looking for a well priced easy to use desktop scanner, look no further. In the past 12 to 18 months most hardware has seen dramatic price reductions and in the case of flatbedscanners there is no exception. The biggest problem here is knowing which makes and models will be most compatible to which computers, also what capabilities they have.
The Dexxa 4800 FlatbedScanner is very standard as far as looks go but handles virtually all types of materials to scan, if you placed your hand on the screen it would even scan that clearly.
The scan range (resolution) is anything between 50 and 4800 DPI which I'm sure for anyone is more than enough, besides which the high end resolutions would take enormous amounts of memory and super powerful computers to be any use.
For most people the Dexxa 4800 is ideal and will work easily...

Advantages: Simple to use. Disadvantages: Have to turn it on befor computer.
...I have had the AGFA Snapscan 1212p flatbedscanner for two years now. It was new when I got it. The p (in 1212p) stands for parralle, as it connect to that port on your computer, not use UBS port. This makes it slightly slower when sending signals from your Pc to scanner.
The scanner comes with two good programs for scanning, Agfa Foto Look and Agfa Foto Snap. They are both very easy to use, Foto Snap being aimed at the beginer.
The scanner can scan just over an A4 piece of paper. I does have one drawback though - you have to turn it on before you turn you computer on or else your computer won't regonise its there. This won't happen if you have a USB version.
I would recommend the scanner to a beginer. A expert would find that it doesn't cater for all their needs....

Advantages: small and thin, usb powered, reliable Disadvantages: noisey, quite slow
...I have had this scanner now for over 3 years, and it has given me excellent service. The size is still ideal and being usb powered saves me an extra plug.
The scanner basically does what it says on the tin, stick a piece of paper into it and scan, and you get the image file you need.
The only problem I have had, which has developed recently, is that after years of being pushed to the back of my desk, the pressure of the cable pulling downwards has loosened the usb port on the scanner, Im expecting it to brake soon but its been like that for a good 6 months now so its definitely a sturdy piece of equipment.
Well recommended....
