Personally I don't have this installed; I use the windows default Logitech G5 drivers as prefer to keep things simple. To be honest I don't notice any difference in all apart from the loss of customisable buttons and such (which I never really got round to using anyway!)

I bought this mouse about 2 years ago to replace my age-old wireless MicroSoft mouse, which was finally biting the dust after a lengthy life in service.
I chose this mouse over the (at the time) over the Logitech MX 518 because of the added benefits of having a high DPI laser mouse for gaming. The weight of the mouse is customisable by means of inserting small (4.5g and 1.7g) weights into a neat little cartridge that lives underneath the mouse. This was one of the best things with this mouse as it allowed me to keep the same weight and feel of my old wireless one - very handy not having to get used to another mouse again!
The software that comes on CD is easy to install and use. It allows you to set 5 different DPI settings (changeable from the mouse) as opposed to the 3 default ones if you don't install the software. The sensitivity of the X and Y axis' are independently customisable from within the Logitech software. Personally I don't have this installed; I use the windows default Logitech G5 drivers as prefer to keep things simple. To be honest I don't notice any difference in all apart from the loss of customisable buttons and such (which I never really got round to using anyway!)
With this mouse I brought a Razer eXactmat, which is where I encountered the first real problem. It worked fine on the "speed" side of the mat, but was very unresponsive on the "control" side. A quick firmware update managed to sort this out so it was no big deal in the end.
In reality the layout of the mouse is for right handed users. Left-handers seeking a gaming mouse would be better off with a more universal one such as a Razer copperhead or similar. The layout of the buttons and general position (albeit for right-handers) is pretty good. Strangely there is only a "back" thumb button and no "forward" one like it's little brother the MX 518. The rustic theme was quite a refreshing break from the boring and bland looking greys of most other mouses.
The only bad thing I can really think of is that the braided cable tends to pick up dust from my metal mouse mat. Pick it off and the job's a good 'un. I know of friends who have managed to break the buttons after a lot of use, but Logitech have happily replaced the mice in question with no fuss at all!
Summary: Durable and full of functions, brilliantly versatile enough for both every day use and for gaming.
Advantages: Very comfortable grip, extremely smooth across the mouse mat Disadvantages: May be considered expensive to some - but not if you want a great mouse!

Basically, this mouse is designed for gamers as you can tune the sensitivity for different uses. You can also customise the weight of the mouse to your liking. The mouse comes with a small tin that contains eight 1.7g and eight 4.5 g weights. The weight cartridge is on the underside of the mouse so all you have to do is pick the weight you want and then slide the tray in the cartridge opening. Changing the weight ... ...would suffice. A utility called Logitech Setpoint is included with the mouse which allows you to program two additional dpi settings to your preference. The other buttons include the two main left and right buttons, a scrollwheel and a thumb button which is on the left side of the mouse making not the best mouse for left-handers. I purchased this mouse to replace my trusty, grey, completely standard, comes-with-the-computer mouse which had finally bitten the dust.
I initially wanted an infra red wireless mouse but due to price and a previous bad experience I decded to go with this highly advanced corded mouse from Logitech
The laser system is far smoother than the old fashioned ball (as would be expected) but this system is particularly good. I have never before used a ... ...to be honest they don't do a lot (I'm no hardcore gamer) and I don't really know what they do.
The weight and balance is completely adjustable, making for a nice feel of motion, and it is ergonomically fantastic and my hand is comfortable with it, even after after many hours of solid use.
Unfortuneatly the plastics used (despite the expensiveness of the mouse) do not feel so good. They are not as pleasant to touch as I would expect for such a high ...

I bought this mouse 2 weeks ago as my old microsoft one died on me. I play alot of games so i thought i would try a gaming mouse for a change.
A couple of unique features about this mouse is the fact that you can change the weight of the mouse. This is done with a small tray on the underside of the mouse. You push a button and it slides out and allows you to put little weights (provided in a cool brushed aluminim box) in the tray and slide it back ... ...4.5 grams. This is great for fine tuning the 'feel' of the mouse.
The other unique feature is the fact that you can change the sensitivity of the mouse on the fly. This is great in games when you may want to make the mouse less sensetive for long range sniping and a high sensitivity in tight situations. Also if you are using photoshop and want to make some very fine details this mouse makes it alot easier to do so. The mouse itslef is very comfortable ...

Well, this mouse is basically the G5 (first edition, so only has one side button, not two) with a nice new paint job. The original G5 is a solid product and as such so is this. If you are a big fan of Battlefield 2142 or indeed any battlefield game then this may be a great buy. As for the technical side of things, the mouse is right up there. It feels responsive yet not twitchy, for gaming its a breeze to use. All in all I would say this is a solid product and well worth the money. (Also, you get a little weight set to weigh the mouse to how you want it to feel, that is cool beyond cool, and also functional as we all have different needs.) ...

So as you can see you do get a lot of bits for your money, several that would not be included in a more mainstream system.
