Advantages: Nice looking piece of kit that will control everything Disadvantages: Complicated to set up
First of all I think this device is designed wonderfully. It looks great as a remote and the docking station to charge it is equally as nice. So far I have found that the battery lasts days and days and weeks, so it isn't necessary to charge it whenever its not in use. But I have only had it for a month or so.

To configure the device you install a piece of software on your PC, connect the remote via USB, and log into a website. On this site you follow a series of step to tell it what devices you have, any activities you want to set up and configure options such as delay times, slideshows, delays etc. This site is not the best though. I have had trouble finding where certain things are. Its also very slow to use. You will find yourself doing a lot of clicking, and in between each mouse click you have to wait for the next page to load - change option...wait...'are you sure you want to change this option'...yes...wait...'option changed' etc. God help you if you have a slow internet connection! Be prepared to spend a lot of time on this site getting everything set up how you think its needed.
Then you upload all the configuration to the device. This takes about 3 minutes, and then you are instucted to disconnect the remote and test it with your devices. As an average I find about 70% of the commands do work as expected. For the rest though you need to reconnect the remote to the computer and go back into the configuration process again..... For example with my TV the teletext off command is not called 'Teletext off' but 'Guide off', so any activities using this command need to be changed again.
Activities are one button press commands that do a number of things. The classic example is press one button labelled 'Watch DVD' and the TV is turned on, changed to AV channel, DVD player is turned on, DVD is played. These are very clever and useful, but be prepared to spend a considerable time getting them set up right, and connecting disconnection from your PC.
Once you've got it all set up though its great. You can control everything from this one device which makes life a load easier. The LCD screen isn't wonderful. The resolution makes it very 'bitty' and images aren't that clear. This isn't too much of a problem - its still perfectly useable - but it makes the remote appear a lot cheaper than it actually is.
Before buying the remote I read reviews that said the build quality isn't too good, that it felt plasticy. But I don't think this is so true. I was expecting something much worse than it is, and I don't have anything to complain about. It sits nicely in your hand and balances well.
I don't think I have much else to say. This is a great device once you have put in the time and effort to get it working properly. I'm sure there are better remotes in terms or screen quality etc but these cost a huge amount more. I would recommend this.

Review of Logitech Harmony 885 Advanced Universal Remote Infrared Universal remote control for TV, DVD player, Audio system
Advantages: Compact, all in remote for under £150, USB driven, sleek charger Disadvantages: Small buttons, limited customisation, low res screen
You know the routine - where's the Sky remote, who's got the TV remote, which one to turn the TV down, has anyone seen the DVD remote???!? (usually stuffed down the arm of the chair!)
Well, for sheer convenience and to remove that tension in the lounge, get an all-in-one remote! OK. First things first - you're reading this review as you are obviously in the market for an all-in-one remote control. My advice before you go any further is if you have ... ...preferably, but the greyscale version is just as good. So why I am advising you to do that? Well having owned the Philips it is by far the best for quailty, functions, customisation and ease of use. The downside is keep the pre-school kids away from it. I guess now you can see why I am using a past tense!! But this review is about the Logitech. So what about it? Well I bought this one as I could not face splashing the cash for yet another Philips ...

Advantages: Controls all my devices with one remote! Disadvantages: Difficult to set-up, cheap screen
Having a surround sound system with integrated DVD player, TV and Sky+ meant we would constantly change around the remote we wanted. (For instance -- when we wanted to watch Sky we would change the channel with the Sky remote but had to adjust the volume with the stereo remote. And our TV will automatically tune to channel 1 when you turn it on and we can't set it to default to the input of AVS (where Sky is plugged in) which meant every time we ... ...TV remote and scroll through the input choices. WHAT A PAIN!)
We opted to splurge out on this remote and we're so glad we did! We can now do everything from one remote. We pick it up and it automatically starts to glow. We hit the "Watch Sky" button and it turns the TV on and gets it to the right input, turns on the stereo and turns on Sky. Then the buttons like play and stop control Sky+. Want to watch a DVD? Hit the "Watch DVD" button and it changes ...
