Disadvantages Shape not as good on the desk, Pricey
The Logitech MX Air is a mouse from Logitech whereby you can use it in mid-air to control the mouse pointer. The mouse is gloss black with some chrome underneath (they give you a cleaning cloth). The LEDs or lights are not visible until the mouse is in use. When active, the labels glow orange, which is very elegant looking.
The wireless runs at 2.4GHz so the mouse has a good range and less chance of interference. It's rechargeable so no batteries to deal with. It has a battery life indicator when the mouse is active so you know when to dock it on the charging dock. The software also alerts you when it's low on juice. It's also very easy to install as it generally works as soon as the small dongle is plugged into a USB port and windows installs the standard drivers. Installing the Logitech software makes it more usable though and allows for customisation.USAGE
Move your wrist whilst holding the mouse to control the mouse pointer on screen or move the mouse around on the desk like a normal mouse. It's very easy and both are very accurate. Using it in the air takes a bit of practice but the CD has a short tutorial, which helps get you started. It has the usual left and right click buttons, as well as Back, Sel, Play/Pause and Vol buttons. Middle button acts as a scroll wheel for scrolling and rather than giving you a wheel, Logitech have put in an optical touch sensor in the button, so sliding your finger up and down the button gives you the scrolling effect. What's even more interesting is that if you quickly brush the middle button, it scrolls automatically and quickly until it 'rolls' to a stop. It can stop if you touch the button again so that you're in total control. Not literally as it's not an actual wheel but it gives that effect. It also makes a clicking noise when scrolling, which can probably be turned off.
As the shape is long rather than round, it is quite easy to hold in your hand in mid-air. When in mid air, the labels light up and you're able to control the mouse pointer by moving the pointer by moving your wrist. The pointer position can be 'calibrated' by holding the 'Back button and then pointing the mouse to where you want to 'centre' to be . When the mouse is in mid air, the mouse pointer changes to a large black pointer (assuming you've installed the Logitech software from the supplied CD). This is obviously to make it easy to see the mouse pointer if you're sitting far back but it shows that a lot of thought has in put into this product as it saves you having to do it manually. When on a desk, the mouse works as a normal desktop mouse. It's a laser mouse so there's no red light underneath. It's very sensitive but like most optical and laser mice, it can't be used on shiny surfaces. I'm not keen on using it as a normal mouse on the desk due to the thin shape.

I got mine as a gift but this 'mouse' can cost anywhere between £60-£100 new.
