The mouse itself is quite big, its really made for desktops and although it'll work fine on laptops the mouse is quite large and the cord is lengthy so if you intend to use this mouse primarily on your laptop - it may fit the bill but the cord length may be a bit too big for some.
This mouse uses laser tracking technology and I can see the big benefits of this over optical tracking. I can even use this mouse on my hand as precisely as I can on my desktop...it works on a few more surfaces in my house than my optical mouse. The tracking and cursor movement of this mouse is generally the same as other mouses. I've tried many mouses and some are more or erratically more sensitive than other mouses, and by that I mean the speed of the mouse in cursor movement compared to other mouses on the same speed setting. This mouse is fine, however. A few speed adjustments via the Logitech Control Center may help though, which is included when you purchase the mouse.
The scroll wheel is OK, although its difficult to middle click due to the vertical scrolling feature the scroll wheel has. Just push the scroll wheel to the left and it scrolls vertically leftwards - vice versa for pushing the scroll wheel towards the right. It's difficult to middle click without accidentally pushing it towards the left or right for it to register as scrolling. I don't normally middle click with this mouse due to this problem, and just CTRL + click to open links in a new tab.
The mouse also has side buttons to the left for going back and forwards through web pages in the web browser...its been around in mouses for years now but its a nice added touch.
The only problem with this mouse for some is that the mouse is made in a way that means only right-hand users will be able to hold the mouse properly (and subsequently use it, either)...so this mouse is definitely for right-hand users only otherwise you'll have problems holding it.
Overall its a good mouse but its not exactly the best I've owned; but I don't mind using it - its a nice mouse to use. I think it also comes with a 5 year limited warranty. I paid around £15 on Amazon UK for it, I think, which for a brand like Logitech is a good price; but I wouldn't pay any more for it.

Review of Logitech MX 400 Performance Laser Mouse - mouse
Advantages: Can be found cheap if you shop around, comfortable, nice extra features. Disadvantages: Not for lefties, some stores can charge a lot.
...useful. Perhaps one of the Logitech MX 400s main selling points is the ingenious inclusion of a 'forward' and a 'backward' button on the left hand side of the mouse which fit just near your thumb. Not to be confused with the left and right mouse buttons, these two new additions are for internet browsing and allow you to move forwards and backwards just as you would by clicking the buttons on your browser page. This takes some getting used to if you're ... ...a while it becomes second nature and is a really convenient little tool.
Being a laser-mouse, you don't need a mousemat because it can run on any surface, which is great news for those of us who become irritated when you run out of mousemat and have to shuffle it around.
The scroll wheel as well as moving your page up and down also operates as a zoom-tool when viewing photographs online. I personally find it very useful when looking at .pdf documents ...

Advantages: nice feel and look Disadvantages: noisy clicks(night surfing!), scroll wheel is hard to press
...ebay, I came across the Logitech MX400. Having already owned the "driving force pro" steering wheel for the PS2 from them, I knew that I would end-up with a high quality item. When I recieved the MX400 mouse after I bought it (around £17 inc. P&P). The first thing I noticed was the unique styling which has a premium yet ergonomic feel to it. When moving the mouse, the pointer seems a little fast compared to other mice.
There are 5 buttons altogether: ... .../ button and the 2 up and down arrows on the side.
The up and down arrows come to use when surfing the web. They are used to navigate forwards and backwards in the web browser.
Overall a great mouse from Logitech, however the middle scroll wheel is hard to press. ...

I've been using this mouse for the past year, before starting to use a cordless one.
It offers an amazing value for the price - I really wasn't expecting such performance from a mouse I paid 25€ for.
It's never skipped a pixel, and I had good times playing Soldat with it.
Maybe it's too light for a corded mouse - the cord makes movement a bit awkward at first, but you get used to it in no time.
The ergonomics are very good. I have big hands though, ... ...moved it with my fingers.
The left and right buttons feel good enough. The scroll wheel is of average quality, but the pressing motion doesn't give good tactile feedback. It's as if it had two stages of pression. The side buttons are nothing special, they actually feel kind of flimsy. To press them you have to lift your thumb in a not entirely comfortable position.
But don't be put off by any of that. For the price, this mouse is an excellent choice. ...

I know input tools will be a subjective isse but assuming you are right handed, I think this is a perfect mouse. It sits perfectly, is extremely precise, light, and importantly for me as a gamer the thumb buttons are completely usable. It's cheap too. My wife has one too and she loves it too. ...
