As I was annoying people with the sounds from my PSP while sat in front of the TV at night I decided to get some earphones. I had read a review that said it was best to get specialist designed earphones that were meant for the PSP so headed off to Game for their best set.
Upon arriving at Game I was shown the Logitech Playgear earphones with an rrp of around £15; I took the sales assistants word who as it transpired later had only started working in this store the previous week. Earphones in hand I scampered off home.
The case read well and sounded suitably impressive, it identified the fact that no two ears are alike and as a result included a variety of different ear pieces so that you could get the correct fit, one of my ears is definitely bigger than the other as one always fits and the other side always drops out. Also it featured special technology that enhanced noises like crashes, gunfire and explosions without being a hindrance to others. With all this in mind I prepared to open the casing......
After taking an unbelievable 8 minutes to get in and finally resulting to hacking my way in with a Stanley knife, me and my earphones were at last introduced. I started to test them with my odd ear first and I need to point out these are those earphones that go right in your ear, not the ones that go in partially with the black fluffy stuff on; these go in very deep. Having succeeded in finding the correct fir for my odd ear I moved on to my OK ear. The first set of ear pieces actually hurt my ear, so I went to get another set out of the packaging. As I removed the set of ear pieces on the earphones I was a bit taken back to hear a click noise as the whole earpiece shot off across the room.
After returning the set to Game and getting a replacement I set about doing the same thing again. Luckily there was no clicking, or popping and the earpiece stayed firm. I played on my PSP for about an hour and yes the sound was great, and much louder than I had heard it with my original PSP earphones. Having headed to the kitchen to get a drink I returned to my PSP with speed. On putting my left earpiece in something felt odd, but I put the right piece in and everything seemed fine. Then I realised that the sound was missing from my left ear, and to my amazement as I pulled the earpiece out I discovered part of it was still in my ear.
Set three was far better, and lasted me for at least three days before the sound in one set just died.
I sent my other half into Game to get a refund, but as it transpired she returned home with set four. This never worked from the offset, so I went into Game and demanded a refund. To my horror the staff all with the exception of new boy were aware that these earphones were “CRAP” but in all our visits nobody had ever bothered to tell me. After leaving game I headed across to the Sony shop where i purchased an official Sony set that work fine.
My advice is if you see these anywhere regardless of price, forget it! On the whole I’m quite careful with earphones, but you could imagine the song and dance you might have if a child ended up with these though.
Advantages: Great isolation, comfort and sound reproduction for a low price Disadvantages: Newer iteration is a comparitively very poor product
These earphones are not only comfortable, but provide great quality sound and pretty good isolation. However, if you are buying these, make sure they are the kind illustrated above - I bought replacements after my cat chewed the originals and they have significantly changed the design. It looks nothing like the old model, resembling more the cheap \"throwaway\" looking efforts you can get for 4.99 in GAME than these bad boys - and the sound and build ... ...them the first time I tried changing the soft sleeves - which themselves are a lot less comfortable than the silicon-type ones in the angular model.
As I said above, the sound quality is great, especially at this price point, and the bass reproduction is pretty good too, little in the way of "fuzziness" which I felt was unfortunately the case in the later embodiment.
