As a Logitech fan I was very hopeful when I first got hold of this headset.
Features
The Logitech headset has a number of good features. These include a microphone so the headset can be used for phone conversations over Skype or to record voice. The cord is very long as well (about 2 meters) so you should have no problems plugging it in and moving around. It also has a volume control and mute switch to allow external control. This saves you having to adjust this digitally which is also very welcome.
Sound
The Logitech headset is aimed at the budget end of the market and if you are a sound connoisseur you will be wanted to look at a more expensive headset. However, the sound quality of the headset is good. Both the base and treble sound solid and it doesn't struggle in either range. Playing music or watching movies is suitably pleasant experience with a whole range of sound coming through. Games sounded excellent with explosions sounding appropriately beefy and gunfire sounding resoundingly chunky. Finally, voice was also suitably played so using Skype to chat with friends was a pleasure.
Microphone
The microphone provided as good. The microphone needs to positioned closer to your chin than your nose as it can sometimes pick up a bit of a whistle if very close to your mouth. However, provided you follow this principle it transmits voice fine and I've no complaints from anyone who I've spoken with. The microphone can also be moved in a 180 degree arc. This means it can be slotted vertically next to your ear when you are not using it and reduces the space needed for storage. If you really wanted to, you could even reverse the headset and have the microphone on the other side which is good if you need or want that feature.
Build Quality
The build quality of the headset is decent. The headset and microphone is made of solid plastic and you are in no danger of damaging it or breaking it. This is important if you are planning on transporting the headset to LAN parties or if you have children in the house. Whilst the headset itself is of good quality, there are a few more flimsy aspects of the headset. There is the odd external wire which juts out and could be pulled out accidentally. The mute toggle is also very flimsy. I have accidentally had it on mute many times. The mute toggle also doesn't 'fully' mute the microphone and instead massively reduces the volume transmitted. This means that other people can hear what is being said if they have the volume very high. Therefore, it's best avoiding the mute toggle all together.
The PAIN
The biggest problem that the Logitech headset has is that it puts a lot of pressure on the tops of your ears. This is not a problem if you use the headset for short periods of time (30 minutes or less). Once you have worn them for an hour they are noticeably uncomfortable, two hours they really hurt and three hours they become unbearable. This unfortunately means that they are simply not suitable for anyone who plans on using the headset for longer periods of time. You can't watch a movie without taking a break from the headsets or indulge in extended gaming sessions.
Recommendation
The headset can now be purchased for about £20-£25 which is very good for a headset with these features and build quality. If you are a casual computer user and need a nice, cheap headset for quick use then this headset is excellent and highly recommended. However, if you are a more serious computer users and planning on wearing a headset for more than hour it would be best to look elsewhere.
