I wanted a value for money, easy to use webcam. I use MSN quite a lot and wanted a webcam to allow video messaging. I also wanted to be able to make mini videos and email them to friends and family. I was recommended Logitech by one of my gadget-freak friends. I chose this particular camera as I felt it was value for money and looked great - small and sleek looking. The frame rate is up to 30 frames per second, which is more than adequate for most users.
I shopped around and eventually purchased a Logitech QuickCam Messenger from www.directfrom.com for £14.50. I paid £6 for next day delivery. The other options are
Standard Delivery = £2.00 Next Day Delivery = £6.00 Next Day Pre 10AM = £12.00 Next Day Pre 12PM = £10.00 Saturday Delivery = £17.00
My package arrived the next day, complete with a USB cable and software, which was easy to install. My camera was setup ready to use straight away! The camera is the size of a golf ball, and comes with a stand.
The Logitech QuickCam Messenger allows you to make instant messages and emails come alive by adding live video and audio quickly, easily and affordably. It’s easy to use and the built-in microphone is excellent.
The picture is of great quality, producing images and videos which can easily be attached to emails. (Video capture and Still image capture: Up to 640 x 480 pixels.)
This camera can be used with MSN® Messenger, AOL® Instant Messenger, Yahoo!® Messenger, and Windows® Messenger.
The camera comes with a 2-year limited hardware warranty.
The Minimum System Requirements for your PC are: Windows® 98, Windows® 2000, Windows® Me, Windows® XP Pentium II 400, Celeron™, AMD Athlon® processor, or higher (Pentium III 500, Celeron, AMD Athlon processor recommended). 64 MB RAM (or minimum OS requirement whichever is higher). 200 MB free hard drive space Available USB port CD-ROM drive 16-bit color display adapter Windows® compatible sound card and speakers (full duplex sound card recommended).
Stanadard dial up doesnt produce the best results, the picture stream is broken and audio is out of sync. Broadband is better.
I find that if I am running too many applications the camera slows down, but it’s not THAT bad. For the price, its great. Almost everyone on my MSN list now has a webcam. It makes the world of difference being able to make video calls. The technology is available, at affordable prices, don’t get left out – go out and buy yourself one now.
