As I've got used to it I've been pleasantly surprised. You can take instant photos by simply pushing the button on top and as it has quite a long lead it's easy to move around. These can then be sent by email as attachments, great at the moment as my parents are in Canada and I was able to send a video of my daughters birthday party.
It comes complete with a built in mic so you don't need to buy separate equipment to have netmeetings. The video does seem to move slower when used this way though, with individual frames rather than a constant flow.

This could be because I'm not using it right, the instruction manual is very brief and vague and the info provided on CD isn't detailed enough, you have to work it out for yourself which, if you've never used a webcam before, isn't easy.
It also has a motion detecting feature and access to your own site for uploading videos and photos so friends can view them on the web. You can also broadcast live images over the web using spotlife.com but does anyone really want to do that? What a thought.
I feel I'm not using the camera to it's full potential due to lack of a full instruction manual.
Advantages: Good quality from a reliable company Disadvantages: Web base service is terrible
...reasons why we bought the Logitech Quickcam was for its looks. It looks pretty cool on the monitor - an eyeball staring at you. Another reason was its price. I am a believer in you only get what you pay for. All i wanted was a device that i could contact my friend on, and nothing much else (i have no intentions of having a webcam live in my house). The Quickcam provided just what i wanted (and i have purchased Logitech hardware before and was very ... ...follow the instructions provided. You MUST install the webcam software BEFORE you plug the webcam in. As long as you do this, you will have a fully working webcam within 10 mins. It really was easy - just install the software, plug in the webcam - test it out.
The picture quality isn't brilliant. I have seen better (and larger resolutions), but like i said, for personal use it was just fine.
We tried logitechs webcam connection service website. ...

Advantages: Easy to use, small, useful. Disadvantages: Needs a directory list of some sort with online users list
I have just purchased two logitech "QuickCam Web" cameras with the idea in mind to keep in touch with my son easily and cheaply. Installing the webcam was very easy. It has a USB interface and the drivers & software just loaded up straight away. The bundled software is good for making videos and stills off-line to email to friends, or to stick on a web site. But to use the webcam online you have to use MSN Netmeeting and MSN Messenger. This meant ... ...and create a microsoft passport. But once all this had been done, the actual ease of use to connect to another camera was good. The only fault i can find is that there are no directories listing online people who just want to chat - or not that i have found so far. All in all, a good product, but would be better if there was some way of seeing (or being able to connect) to an online directory listing other people who just want to chat.

Advantages: built in mic, relatively cheap now, easy to use Disadvantages: bad picture quality, slow
For anyone who just wants a simple webcamera that is pretty cost effective then the quickcam web would be a good option.
I got it a few years ago when it cost me about £55 but now ive seen it for about £25 in pc world so as cameras go its cheap enough. Its got a number of abilities, taking still pictures (you can use the button on top but be careful not to take a picture of your wrist, i prefer to just use the software and click the onscreen button) ... ...friends and family the world round as attachments. You can also use it as some sort of security device as it has motion capture built into the software, though personally i think this is more of a gimmic than a useful feature unless you want lots of pictures of your cat.
Due to the fact that it has a built in microphone you are all set up for video conferencing straight away. I personally use it to talk to my various friends around the world via ...

Advantages: Good design and easy setup Disadvantages: Not very good picture quality
The Logitech Quick Cam web is a good little camera and for the price you get what you pay for, i think we payed about £40 for ours.
The camera is a neet compact design and is well thought out, with its built in microphone, and snapshot button. It comes with two stands, one that can be used to plonk it on top of your CTR monitor (pictures) and one that allows you to clip it to you TFT monitor, i have used both of them and there are both good, the ... ...not have any any rubber feet to help it to grip onto things, the stand itself is bade of rubber but its not very sticky. The lense cover to good to stop the dust form getting onto the lens, and if it does its quite hard to clean out because its quite a way back into the camera.
The software is great, there is motion detection, and the cameara also has a low light mode which allos better viewing in them dark times. IT is possible to have a web confrances ...

Advantages: Password protection, privacy cover, games Disadvantages: None
The camera is very small and is very quick on USB. I bought the camera on its own not in the double pack. The program it uses is very quick and easy as there is everything in the title bar. It produces high quality pictures at many different sizes. It can be used for security as it has a motion detector and has the optional preference to have a password to stop the detection. If you dont want to be seen there is a privacy cover and to take snaps ...

Advantages: Cheap... like the budgie Disadvantages: Can't think of any
I recently bought a Dexxa Webcam... who I hear you say, well at £20 for a webcam, with motion detector software and it being compatible with logitech drivers... I bought it. Basically it is the same as the Quickcam Express, but cheaper, and a different colour. You can download the logitech drivers from their website and presto it is a QC Express (but still a different colour) The only problem is if you install the LT drivers you lose the motion decector function, which is a shame, but gain other usful facilites, such as being able to record sound, with out having to create a video e-mail.
Overall it is one of the great £20 investments I have made and even 6 months later I am still dead chuffed with it and until I find something better and cheaper. ...
Advantages: Clear Pictures Disadvantages: Choice of colour, if you prefer PC Grey.
"Great performance and value. Unbeatable combination."
An ideal webcam for windows 95/98 for the price.
Excellent low light support and clarity of pictures.
The framerates superb with a fast internet connection but that goes for all webcams. I like the detacheable 9ft cord and the shutter button on the camera for taking pictures away from the PC. I've tried the LogitechQuickcam Pro and the Intel Create & Share Cams, and opted for the 3Com Web Cam due to better performance. I really don't see any negative sides to this Cam. Well apart from it coming in black and not matching my monitor on which it sits. ...
Advantages: Cheap, USB Disadvantages: Poor quality
Looking around PC World, I wanted a cheap affordable web cam, and what caught my eye was the LogitechQuickCam Express, at £39.99. I thought ‘what a bargain’, and subsequently purchased it, and took it home. Plugging the cam in was easy – it is USB, and so was the installation, however, when I came to use the camera I found it slow, with poor colour and very blurry image. A friend of mine also bought the same camera, and hers didn’t even work. I have a PIII 450MHz, so my computer shouldn’t have been a problem, but from similar cameras in the price range I have seen, the Logitech seems to have the poorest quality picture. If you are thinking of buying a web cam for video conferencing over a 56K line – DO NOT. It will be very very slow, and the sound will be patchy – a con in all essence ...
The Logitech QuickCam Web was designed with camcorder technology and advanced compression to deliver sharp still images, and enhanced video quality at up to 30 frames per second. Moreover, this powerful image processing technology is built into the camera, leaving your PC free to perform other tasks. The Quickcam Web includes everything you need to start creating web pages with videos or stills captured with its help. With the Quickcam Web, it's easy to automatically broadcast images of your baby, pet, room, or whatever, live over the Internet. Send video e-mail and photos with just one click, even with AOL. No camera or special software is required on the other end for viewing. With Microsoft NetMeeting you can talk face-to-face over the Internet, with the built-in microphone making it easy and natural.
