Hello, how are you, I wish I could see you. Sound familiar does it well how many times have you seen that whilst chatting to your friends and family whilst on line, I know I have.
I went out and bought a Trust Spacecam 200 web cam and used it for only one week, while running Windows Me. I probably would have stuck with it, even allowing for the terrible picture quality, which to put it mildly was not flattering except for the fact that it was not comparable, even though I was assured it was with Windows XP. So back it went to the supplier for a refund.
Here the problems started, no one in the shop (Pc World whispers Baz for fear of a deluge of bad comments) could or would commit themselves to stating which if any webcam would work with Windows XP.
Prices started from around £29 up to £90 plus and I was left to my own devices as to which one I chose. I settled for the Logitech Quickcam Express for the sum of £34.00 (well I needed it urgently to talk to someone dear to me, and where else on a wet Sunday afternoon could I get one) the reason behind buying this one was that it was compatible with Windows 2000 which I believe to be the nearest relation to XP.
Installation was a breeze. The installation CD flew through the procedure and only gave me one bad moment when up came a pop up window proclaiming that the web cam was not compatible with this version of Windows, but I let it load and to my delight it worked.
The picture quality to my mind was excellent a 100% improvement over the previous model. I did at this stage look at Ciao to see how it was rated and it has poor reviews, which surprise me, as it is simple to use, and gives a good clear crisp picture. Now friends and family can see me complete with all blemishes. I’m not sure which I prefer now!
You can with the webcam, use it for live video over the internet, take still pictures or use it as a video recorder the results of which you can then send as an email to whoever you like. I use it in Yahoo messenger which by some quirk will not support a webcam if you download from the English website but go to the American site and it does support it although the software is a beta version, which works extremely well.
It comes with an array of bundled software including Microsoft NetMeeting, which definitely doesn’t work with XP, and CrestCards a program that allow you to compile and send video greeting cards.
Minimum system requirements are Windows 95 with a 266mhz processor. A free usb port, 16 MB Ram and 75 MB free space on your hard drive and if you want sound as well then you must have a Windows compatible sound card and of course a microphone.
I am very pleased with this webcam and will recommend it without reservation to anyone. It does not however look very good, it is in fact a ball with an eye perched on a triangle, I would suggest if you are a fan of South Park to paint it orange and call it Kenny for it is his double. Anyway look out for me on line, stop and have a chat, I’m still the one with the Black and White shirt
