I have a boyfriend who lives a long coach journey away, so we like to keep in touch via webcam . The only problem with that is that my bedrooms pretty poorly lit, and the position of the light in relation to my PC meant that generally, I just showed up as a blur.
So, as a gift, my boyfriend decided to surprise me with a new webcam in the post - The Logitech Quickcam Pro 9000. Installing the camera was easy - run the disk that comes with the camera, plug into your USB slot when prompted, follow the easy instuctions, a quick restart, and you've got yourself a shiny new webcam.
Immediately I could see many advantages with this webcam over my old one - starting with something relatively simple - a nice long wire, and a heavy weighted base that made positioning of the camera and moving it around very easy. This was really useful for me, as I like to turn the camera towards the bed when I get tired to I can chat away as I drift off (yes, me and the other half are still at that sickeningly soppy stage). Coupled with the fact that it has a built in microphone, so I no longer had to get tangled up in wires as I attempt to get comfortable, I was already impressed, and this was before I'd even taken any pictures or chatted on camera!
When I did get round to taking photos and video, I was impressed . The camera comes with something called 'automatic right light' which basically, if your image is dark, prompts you to click it, and it will adjust the settings so it can pick you up clearly . No longer was my boyfriend presented with a blurry blob in the evenings - he could actually see me in startling clarity, as well as being able to see everything in the room behind me , the camera seems to have a wide pick up range.
Still photos came out clearly and sharply focused, with every little freckle being picked up clearly, although one feature this camera doesn't have (or that I have yet to find) is a timer to take photos, which is a shame - no longer can I twirl in my new dress from across the room and know that the camera will take a photo every 30 seconds so i can pick a nice one. However, while it lacks that one feature, it does have some fun effects that can be applied to both stills and video - sepia , black and white, pop-art - all manner of fun stuff to make pictures and video interesting . You can even apply crowns to your head, or talk as an animated dinosaur!
Its a pretty nice looking camera too, a polished shiny black with silver detailing and the microphone built in at one end. The flexible weighted arm that supports the camera makes positioning it easy, and when its in use, a glowing red circle lights up the front of the camera.
It has autofocus and face tracking, both of which work well, and you can set it to prompt you whenever there are driver updates available. My fella wont tell me how much he paid for it (blah!) but its available from amazon for a little under £45 , which I think is excellent value for money . Definately an improvement on my old camera, and one I plan to stick with for a long time .

...on the internet.
The Logitech Quickcam software that is bundled with the device is very comprehensive, this automatically loads at startup although I understand from reading some forums that it uses a lot of system resources, even when the camera is not in use. I have disabled the software loading at startup as it is easily loaded either automatically by plugging in the USB webcam connection or by selecting the icon from the desktop / start menu.
... ...to know, im sure the Logitech website will provide in depth descriptions.

Advantages: Produces a really good quality picture Disadvantages: Expensive and sometimes struggles in low light conditions
The Logitech Quickcam Pro 9000 is an excellent webcam that produces a really crisp and clear picture at the other end. The camera is fairly expensive but worth the cost. - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - -

Advantages: very high resolution with microphone and top of the range lense Disadvantages: needs a high powered computer to run at full frame rate and graphics card
Well this cam is a bit bulkier than some standard ones. But it is no crappy cam although the price I paid was 60 pounds.
Firstly I liked the look of it and the fact it has an adjustable hinge that will fit on any tv or monitor.
I found that the installation went pretty smooth you have to remember to plug it in when it tells you to.
Ok after the initial setup it is pretty straightforward. SOmetimes you have to run the audio and video setup on yahoo ... ...Now this is where things got tricky the frame rate was slow and stopped a lot. I thought this was just to do with the internet so I disconnected the internet and tried it on windows movie maker and also the built in software video recorder. The same happened.
I finally found out what the problem was. You need to make sure that you have your graphics card set to full acceleration, you also should have a powered USB Hub 2.0 or take a lot of usb devices ...

Advantages: Great picture quality, good software support, easy to use and install. Disadvantages: I've not found many, At first difficult to use the universal stand instead of clip.
I've used webcams before, but only briefly, this was my first real camera, that I could call mine and I love it. I use Skype frequently to make video calls and this camera is perfect, although the quality at the other end of the call is often more to do with the internet speed. I found the software that accompanies this camera excellent it has resolution settings and even funny characters that track your face, I mean you can be a lion or the sky! ... ...found myself using was the video recording, Its perfect for making youtube videos or that personal e-mail to that someone special so the know they're worth more than just words. The applications are perfect for whatever you need. You don't know it yet but you need this camera, buy it enjoy it and know your safe with in the hands of an excellent company like Logitech. ...

Advantages: Great design, ease of use and microphone/video quality, Ideal for Skype or Internet Calling Disadvantages: The software bundle took a while to get running
From the very start, I had always been looking for a webcam for purchase but I was always worried that I would end up with an unsatisfactory purchase. After a few days of research, this webcam seemed to be the most reasonable choice and had very positive reviews - and they did serve right. As from the day of purchase, this is by far one of the most handy and useful webcams I have seen and used! I cannot compare to ones I do not have but the picture ... ...small in size, and you can use the stand to place either on a desk, or hanging from the top of your laptop or your PC/Mac monitor. There is also a feature on it called RightLight which adjusts the light settings on your webcam automatically which can come in handy sometimes. The webcam can take pictures from VGA quality to 9MP and videos from VGA quality to 1.5 MP. And it also comes with pretty fun software, although kinda hard to install if it didn't ...
