The first thing I will say about the Logitech AFWebcam is: This is more then a webcam!
Unfortunately with my Mrs not currently living in the same place as me and due to the fact that I knocked off and stood on my old webcam, it became time for me to buy a new one. Now my old webcam, a Logitech Zoom I bought back 4 year ago and the Camera served me very well! Now I am no worker for Logitech, nor am I biased towards them for any reason at all, but it seems that it's fair to say that they own the market when it comes to the world of Webcams.
Anyway, back to Logitech AF. Now I managed to get this for about £65, but you may pay more or less depending on where you get it from. Now I know that £65 is a lot to spend on a webcam, but for me, who uses it almost daily, I didn't feel it was so much, if of course, the camera was worth it.
Now when this thing arrived and I opened it. It looks like some sort of Scientific movie cam! It's black in colour and also features a 9" stem which allows you to sit the webcam higher! Great idea really for all those who work on a normal desk as the Camera sits at your eye level. The cable is roughly a metre long and the camera can either be placed on the 9" stem, or just on the base unit (like all other webcams) itself.
Now I Installed the software from the CD and plugged the thing in. The software you get is simple to use really and has some very interesting features. First thing I will mention is the fact this thing moves. Yes, it has a motor on board! So you need to adjust where it faces you can do it from the software! Now that's all very impressive, but just a lazy way of moving it with your hand, but what is very cool is the cam can face track you. So there I sit with the face tracking on, walking round in my kitchen and it follows me around! Awesome, if not stalkerish. I will say, it does sometimes lose me if I move too fast, but if I got back into picture it soon found me again.
The second thing I will mention is the quality. This camera bosts an 8mp enhanced picture quality, but for video purposes no higher then 2mp! You can also record HD videos and with the autofocus I put my thumb infront of the cam and it focused right in so I could see my finger print! My old cam would just show a blur at that point!
Then you have these cool extra features, I wont go into it loads, but it finds your face and you can yourself say a beard and move around with your beard on, there are avatars that use your face movements to move the avatar on screen, usual sort of effect like mirrored images and you can even put your eyes and mouth on the mona lisa! All fun and works over your IM e.g MSN, so you can impress of annoy your friends with your way better camera! Aha - Geek?
The thing also has a built in Microphone and picks up sound very well!
All in all, it really is the ultimate webcam in my opinion and I would be surprised to see any other cameras competing with this, unless of course, they bring out a new model.
To rap it up, if you want the best webcam on the Market with great crystal clear images and tons of features then buy this. The only downside of the camera is the price, but as the saying goes "you get for what you pay for".
