Webcams are great, whether you want to see different places in the world, what the traffic is like on a motorway near you, or if you fancy just being
nosy, there's bound to be something that someone is showing that will interest you greatly. For some unknown reason, I thought that people would
like to see me sat behind my desk typing way, picking my nose and other things I do while I'm sat here. As my machine doesn't have any USB
connections, I knew that my choice would be limited. I had read good things about this parallel port camera, and so ordered it.

Its shape and size are both impressive. The sleek, black camera is no bigger than a snooker ball, and probably weighs less. The acutal lens of the camera can't be more than a centimetre in size. The almost pyramid shaped stand is made out of rubber and to be honest, a little disappointing. It would have helped if it was a bit heavier, the weight of the lead and camera combined seems too much for it. The camera image is very, very impressive. Focus is excellent and the colours are nice and sharp. Colour and brightness can either be set manually or automatically, via the application software. The sensitivity is amazing for such a small lens, and the size of 352x264 pixels. Video recording and conferencing is best done in the smallest size, for extra speed. The time-lapse mode is an added bonus, and can be quite fascinating if you point the camera out of a window. And what could be nicer than sending some video footage to a friend you haven't seen in years? Although I beleive conferencing is what it was designed for, it doubles up as an effective webcam. You can tell it to upload images to your FTP site at certain intervals, and even let it create its own page if you're not too keen on coding HTML.

The 6ft lead is just about long enough to move the camera round. If you're thinking of extending it, you'll need a normal parallel port lead AND a keyboard lead, as the camera power is cleverly ran from your keyboard socket via a pass-through connector.

The software supplied on the disk isn't over-exciting, Microsoft Internet Explorer, Microsoft Netmeeting and the camera application software and
driver. This, in itself is quite disappointing. Although funtional, it's prone to crashing and locking. Whether this is a problem with my resources
or a conflict, I'm not too sure. Apart from this problem, it does its job well.

If your machine cannot handle USB, this is definitely one of the best cameras on the market.

Review of Logitech Quickcam VC by Bluecat

Advantages: Great quality for such a cheap cam
Disadvantages: No internal microphone

...been really pleased with my Logitech Quickcam VC. The picture quality is excellent considering that it only cost £60. The camera has an internal light meter so can be set to automatically adjust for changes in lighting, such as the sun going behind a cloud. Colour rendition is very good also. The Camera comes with Microsoft Netmeeting so you can get on line and chat to friends immediately. The only drawback is that you’ll have to supply your own ... Read review

You could spy with this little eye
Review of Logitech Quickcam VC by S_Osborne

Advantages: very small. has its own built in clamp
Disadvantages: none that i can think of

The logitech quickcam is a very usefull little piece of hardware to have. It is small cmpact and comes with all the little features that anybody could possibly want. I recently had to do my a-level course work in which I had to measure the energy losses in a bounicing ball. I used the quick cam to record the bounces so I could see where the highest point of the bounce was (you need this to work out the energy loss) anyway end of physics lesson. ...
...which enables you to clip it to the side of your lap top if you have to. The length of cable is nice as it is not too long that it gets in the way of everything, but it is long enough to reach probably where you need it to. The software that comes with the quickcam is very easy to use and is not hard to load on to your computer because it has its own autorun feature. It allows you to take still pictures and videos. You are then able to edit these ... Read review

top piece of kit
Review of Logitech Quickcam VC by console

Advantages: price
Disadvantages: Greyscale

A good, cheap camera, the pioneer of the market. However, the drivers under NT4 are unacceptably slow and hog much memory. It also looks like Logitech/Connectix/whoever has given up on updating the drivers, so unless you can find one for £20 or so used, just get a QC Pro or such. It's also great that the included software allows you to use the device to take still photos and jpeg movies, but the drawback is that it can quickly eat up a harddrive. ... Read review

Review of Logitech Quickcam VC by steroper

Advantages: Image Quality, Excellent free software, Great value for money
Disadvantages: None, buy it now!

The Logitech QuickCam VC came before the Quickcam Pro 3000. The QuickCam VC costs £20 less, this webcam offers almost the same image quality and exceptionally great software. The webcam is slightly smaller and slightly less sturdy, but it has the same easy step-by-step guidance throughout the installation process. The software that controls the camera and comes free with it is excellent, it has every useful operation from building websites to making ...
...VC and software would be great for children and beginners to use as everything is clearly explained and illustrated all the time. As well as the Quickcam software that comes free with the camera, you also get Digital Radar security system and Microsoft Netmeeting. The best piece of software I think that comes free with the cam is Spotlife, this allows you to broadcast live on the net which is a bit like having your own TV channel. (or a tiny bit ... GOOD LITTLE CAM
Review of Logitech Quickcam VC by passport

Advantages: clear pictures, software
Disadvantages: flimsy base

Bought this initially for use on netmeeting. To keep in contact with friendly abroad etc. Gives good clear pictures, but could probably benefit from a good spec computer to cope with the memory needed and to keep the camara picture as smooth as possible. I have also used the software that comes with the camera, quite useful to take static picture or 'series' pictures. Good for selling productas and posting them on an auction site, just for example. ... Read review
