Microphone. It could give you alot of pleasure.
I thought I might offer a different view of this Microphone as I use it frequently with my classes.
*** Appearance ***
It is actually very stylish. It has a silver, rectangular base from which extends a tall thin ,black microphone piece. This piece is on a swivel so it can be moved forwards or backwards to suit your position and can also be pushed fully down when packing away. On the base is a button that when pressed goes bright green and signals the device is ready to record.
Despite it somewhat phallic appearance ,surprisingly none of my pupils have actually mentioned this or even done rude things with it which is more than can be said for some of the staff!
*** Installation ***
This is extremely easy. You merely plug in the USB device into the port on your computer. This lauches the Add New Hardware Wizard follow the instructions and it's ready to use.
Witha Mac it is just as easy. Again place the USB device in the port, click system preferences choose sound to activate the Sound Option Window.
The ease of installation was a big plus for me as I couldn't leave the microphones permanetly attached. However, it has been incredible easy to install.
*** How to use ***
Difficult one I know. Have a guess?
No you don't put the silver base in your mouth and try to talk at the same time, that's silly.
No believe it or not you position the microphone where you want click the record button and it records your voice or any other sound you wish. It really is that easy.
However it can take a few goes to get the quality and volume of your voice at an appropriate level. The speaker's distance from the microphone is critical to the whole process. However there is alot of free software around at the moment that allows you to manipulate your sounds ( see later).
*** Some uses ****
Clearly there are many uses for this microphone. I believe delivers better quality than inbuilt microphones so if your doing a Webcast it could be useful.
I primarily use it with Macs when using I-Movies. We use the microphones so groups can record commentary over existing film footage.
However I have found an exciting new opportuinity to use this recently; to make your own Podcast. This is incredibly easy to do and if you go to BT education webpage they will walk you through the different steps. Also they will point you towards software called Audacity which helps you to manipulate the sounds you have recorded on your microphone. This is a fantastic piece of free software I would strongly recomment. Use both and you could even do a Podcast of all your reviews, how exciting!
*** Cost ***
I have just run a froogle search on this and it is coming up for about £11.00 with some retailers. This is an excellent price. I'm not sure what we paid because we bought in bulk but I believe this to be a bit of a bargain.
*** Overview ***
This is an excellent microphone. It is easy to install even if your not confident with computers. The sound quality is good. It could open up new avenues of use for your computer and it is easy to pack away. Just avoid doing naughty things with it or I'll have to put you in detention!
