Logitech UltraX Media Keyboard keyboard

...been very pleased with my Logitech UltraX keyboard - it is a robust and solid keyboard which will not break the bank.

In fact I purchased this keyboard to replace my previous Logitech UltraX PS/2 which was a little worn (but still going strong) after 4 years of hammering through a computer science degree.

The key action on the keys is like that of a laptop - very short and precise, with a satisfying tapping ...

This keyboard is usually priced in the budget range of keyboards. In this class it represents excellent value for money due to its build quality and ease of installation (no drivers required). It is even better value if you like laptop style keys but crave a full-sized keyboard layout.  ... more

In fact I purchased this keyboard to replace my previous Logitech UltraX PS/2 which was a little worn (but still going strong) after 4 years of hammering through a computer science degree.

Key action:
The key action on the keys is like that of a laptop - very short and precise, with a satisfying tapping noise. The short action of the keys allows for quick typing (at least with my style of touch-typing).

Features:
In addition to the standard UK keys, this keyboard also features 6 enhancement buttons, labeled "Media", "Play/Pause", "Mute", "Favorites", "E-mail", "WWW". All of these buttons work out of the box with Windows XP and Ubuntu 8.04 operating systems (I also tested in Linux Mint 6, where they all worked, but the "media" button required additional but simple setup).

It would be nice if this product had a few more feature buttons, such as volume control or some user-programmable keys. An in-built USB hub would also be useful. However, I appreciate this is an entry-level product and I think the sacrifice of such features is worth it for the build quality at this price.

Quality:
This keyboard or its predecessor have never let me down in over 6 years of heavy use. The build quality is solid, as with most Logitech products.
