I'm reviewing the Logitech X-530 speaker set, which is a 5.1 Surround Sound speaker set for your computer. The X-530 consists of a set of five small speakers, known as 'satellites', and subwoofer, which is the larger unit that produces the bass. This is where the term '5.1 Surround' comes from. The five satellites are black with the black see-through mesh covering two cones on each.
Cheap plastic is nowhere to be seen with these speakers. These speakers are high quality! The plastic looks and feels very durable and dropping one of the speakers did no harm at all.

Home theatre, or home cinema, systems will usually hurt your wallet quite a bit and although the X-530 isn't really a home cinema system or even part of one, it is a good alternative for your PC. A home cinema system would usually have a Logic 3 amplifier as well as the satellite speakers and subwoofer but the X-530, being a PC speaker set, connects to your computer using analogue signals. A 'true' 5.1 sound system would be digital but these speakers do not have the option. You can buy digital PC speakers for use with a PC though as some soundcards have the connection. Even though it's not truly 5.1, it's a great low cost way to emulate the experience. Having them means you can have sound coming from the front left, front centre, front right, rear left and rear right as well as bass from the subwoofer for a greater cinematic experience.
It set me back £55.00 including delivery of £6.00 from Komplett. Although I found it slightly cheaper elsewhere after having bought it(!), it is still £4.99 cheaper than Argos and still very cheap, even at the Argos price, for such great quality speakers!
-= The Speakers & Subwoofer=-
The five satellites speakers all look quite similar to each other. The only differences are the front-right speaker having the power button, volume control and a headphone socket, and the centre speaker standing horizontally rather than vertically. Oh, and it has the Logitech badge on the foot, not like the other four satellites where they are at the top. The five satellites are black with the black see-through mesh covering two cones on each.
Cheap plastic is nowhere to be seen with these speakers. These speakers are high quality! The plastic looks and feels very durable and dropping one of the speakers did no harm at all.
Excluding the centre speaker, the others are wall mountable. Simply rotate the feet 180° anti-clockwise then hang them up using a screw or something. The centre speaker is not wall mountable but it is the only speaker which is adjustable. You can tilt the speaker to face up or down. Not only are they good quality, they look good too! They're quite small so can fit in small places. The subwoofer is also very good quality and looks like it can survive a good hard kicking. It's not too big so fits nicely under my desk. The small size of the speakers and woofer usually means they are not as powerful compared to bigger ones but can't complain for the price!
-= Setting Up =-
To be able to fully use the Logitech X-530, you need a 5.1 capable computer. Although many computer motherboards are equipped with onboard soundcards nowadays, not many have 5.1 audio. To make your PC 5.1 compatible, you would need to buy yourself a 5.1 Soundcard. If you only have a two or four channel soundcard, you would not be able to use all the speakers. With two channel sound, i.e. standard soundcard, you would not have sound from the rear speakers. I had bought myself a Creative SoundBlaster 24-bit 5.1 (supporting 5.1, 6.1 and 7.1) Soundcard just so I could have surround sound in my room. I have since upgraded it to a Creative SoundBlaster Audigy 2 ZS but that's another story.
Set up is relatively easy and instructions and diagrams in the manual make the process even easier. I didn't have any real trouble setting everything up although running the wires can be a pain depending on where you put the speakers and what you have in the room. If it were a very large room with lots of corners to go round, you may have to buy yourself extensions. This is especially true with the two rear speakers.
I thought the Front-Right speaker's wire was a bit short so had to keep it close to the subwoofer and computer. I wanted mine slightly further to the right but never mind. To connect up, I just connected the satellites to the subwoofer, and then the control unit to the soundcard. The Phono sockets at the back of the subwoofer are colour coded along with the Phono connectors so you can easily tell which cable goes where. Which colour is for which speaker (i.e. Front Left, Rear Right, etc) is also labelled.
I found connecting the three 3.5mm connectors to my PC slightly more challenging since my current sound card isn't colour coded so I didn't know which connector connects to what. These are the green, black and orange connectors (although the orange one looks more like pink to me). The manual told me which goes where though!
-= Controls =-
I would have liked for the control unit to give me more control over the speakers. Currently, there is only a volume control on it but it could have included several more controls allowing me to control the volume of each individual speaker and the subwoofer. The control unit is on a speaker so there isn't much room for this but if the controls were on another unit, then there would be space for this. A shame it would probably bump up the price. I currently have to 'mix' the volumes using my soundcard's software. The subwoofer volume is at the back of the subwoofer unit, which is fine I guess. I would have also liked an extra 'Line-In' socket at the control unit so that I could plug in my MP3 player or laptop to the speakers. Otherwise, I would have to unplug one of the connectors at the back of my PC and even then, I'd only be able to use one of them and would not be able to use all the speakers.
I currently plug in my DVD player to my Line-In port on my soundcard. With this, I make the DVD player sound go through my computer, and then out through my X-530 speakers! I've also split the Line-In port into two with a splitter and have a 3.5mm connector audio cable going into the Line-In, as well as my DVD player. This spare 3.5mm audio jack can be used to connect anything that uses the 3.5mm (i.e. an MP3 player) to input the audio into my PC and then out through my X-530 speakers again! This is my way round the problem with the speakers being PC speakers only and with it lacking an extra Line-In port. The only drawback being my computer has to be on for this to work as it all goes through my computer.
-= Sound Quality =-
The sound quality of these speakers is brilliant. Watching DVDs gives you a pretty good cinematic experience with no hisses or any noises that shouldn't be there. It's not as powerful as a 'proper' surround sound system but I can't really complain for the price I paid. The X530 boasts a 70 Watt RMS or 140 Watt peak, which isn't much at all compared to other speakers I've seen! Some of the Logitech Z range speakers are way more powerful. A single speaker is more powerful than the X-530 set combined but they cost a lot more. I think the X-530 is more than enough for my little room though, which is only about 1.5m x 1.5m. When turned up, it's pretty loud! They also boast Frequency Direct Dual Driver (FDD²) satellite technology that "produces a uniform sound field for full, rich sound" and a bunch of other stuff. The sound it produces sound good so I'll take their word for it!
When the subwoofer is turned up to the maximum along with the speakers, the sound can sometimes sound a bit distorted. This can be resolved by turning down the subwoofer volume a bit and turning down the bass and treble bass in your computer's volume settings if your soundcard software has this.
One issue I have with the speakers is that the rear speakers are a bit quiet. When watching something, it's difficult to hear the sound from the rear so I have to turn up the volume. Sitting further back helps too as I'd be nearer to the rear speakers. Something else I could do is to lower the volume of the front speakers in my soundcard software's volume mixer, and then turn up the volume knob on the control unit. This would balance it out a bit.
-= Conclusion =-
I love these speakers. When turned up, provide an excellent cinema surround sound experience, or quite close to one for PC standards anyway. A shame about the lack of controls but for such a low price, I can't complain. It's almost like being at the cinema or in the middle of the film, sound-wise. Even though it's not the most powerful of speaker systems, my family sometimes complain about it being too loud even though it's not turned up much. I'll need a bigger screen for that bit extra cinema experience! You're not giving up quality either as they're Logitech branded and their products are nearly always top quality computing products. They also look good and can be mounted onto walls if need be. You can also connect your games console to it if you buy yourself an adapter. It's definitely not for audiophiles as they'd want to go for top-of-the-range stuff but these speakers are ideal for those looking for a low cost 5.1 PC speaker set for their PC without sacrificing quality. Anyway, I love 'em! Highly recommended!

Advantages: 140watt maximum output, good sound quality, can be wall mounted, rather cheap Disadvantages: not wireless so the wires could get in the way, no remote control.
I bought these Logitech P.C theatre speakers a couple of months ago for my University room. You might think that is over the top but I totally love my music and couldn't help it.
I bought the speakers from P.C world for only £36.00. How did I get them that cheap? Well I reserved the speakers online for £39.99 then I went into store with my 10% off voucher and got them for £36.00. This was a total bargain as they are being sold for £74.99 in currys ... ...output of the speakers is 70watt but the maximum output is 140watt.
---They can be bought from many electrical shops but I recommend that you check amazon and PC World Online before purchasing anywhere else.

Logitech X-530 5.1 speakers. First some esential tech data:
Total pow RMS : 70 Watts
Total peak pow: 140 watts
Cable lenght:
center:160cm
front: 140cm/180cm
rear: 450cm
Installation is as simple as possible and described weel in manual.
Very attractive design gives it professional look. Whole set is assembled with high quality components both inside and outside. Unfortunately there are too many cables ... ...are quite thick and strong. Center, front, and subwoofer speakers cables are quite short; even for desktop use lenght is nearly enough and I don't find my desk a big one. Satellites
Satellites have rotated stands and can be mounted on the wall. I can trully say this is very solid construction.
I had a pleasure of accidently dropping one satellite on the floor a few times and it still works fine.
Relatively tall sattelites and small stands forced ...

Advantages: Cheap and brilliant sound quality Disadvantages: Cables far too short, trouble with rear speakers
Logitech speakers, 5.1 surround. The name tells it all. They are the cream of speakers. Never experienced surround sound? Should be shot (Bit drastic actually).
Never fear, Logitech to the rescue with this relatively cheap 5.1 system. Not the best on the market arguably, but it still serves its purpose. Coupled with a high quality sound card, you'll not know the difference.
Priced at £30-50 these are at the bottom end of surround sound prices. ... ...doesn't want to burst the bank on a sound system.
Wall mountable the system is perfect for a small bedroom, the speakers are nicely sized so they don't take up oceans of room. The sub woofer again is a nice size. Made of sturdy material and would probably withstand the occasional knock and fall you expect of it.
All round these speakers are generally good. Not brilliant but for a price as low as that, you can't complain.
So... On to the bad points:

Advantages: Great sound, easy to assemble Disadvantages: Need to pay extra for external sound card (if you don't have 5.1 built in)
I bought this surround sound system from amazon.co.uk for £39.99. The X350 set includes 4 'satellite' speakers (each 7.4 Watts), a centre channel speaker (15.5 Watts) and the subwoofer (25 Watts) - these amount to a 70 watts RMS, with a maximum output power of 140 Watts. Being at University, I was watching films and playing music through my laptop, but needed something better than the weak laptop speakers. This was a great choice at a price that ... ...cost. The subwoofer is powerful and compact, and the rear right and left speakers are a good length for a smallish room. The volume control and on/off switch are located on the right hand speaker, which connects invidually to the subwoofer and sound card. The speakers themselves have robust stands, which allow them to either stand on a desk or can be rotated to allow them to be hung on the wall. Fittings are included in the box to allow you to do ...

Advantages: Sound is OK, looks good, not too high price. Disadvantages: bad design, Volume and power controls on FR speaker, cord too short.
The speakers have an OK sound but nothing spectacular. The main problem I had was the bad design. The way it is set up, the volume and power controls are in the front right speaker, not a dongle which sits on the desk. The master speaker only has a 6 foot cord so the Front Right speaker has to be mounted within 6 feet of the sub-woofer, which it plugs into. And the sub-woofer has a pretty short cord to the PC as well so you really have to play with ... ...right for someone sitting at the desk. Oh yes, Did I mention that the cord for the Front Right wasn't a standard cord? It's proprietary, and you can't get an extension unless you are good with electronics and want to make your own. Also, all of the other speakers plug into the subwoofer, and they really need much longer cords. So its an OK speaker set as long as you don't mind being within 5 to 6 feet of the front right speaker and not the center... ...

Advantages: Value for money, excellent performance/sound, dongle to control sound Disadvantages: None so far
I recently purchased a new computer, and with it I bought a set of these T6060 speakers.
I truly was not expecting the type of sound these speakers put out. For 50 pounds, they are really on the entry level side of the market however these speakers really pump.
The sub is super punchy and I actually have to turn it down to 5 (from 10) or it's just too much in most instances. The forward facing speakers all have tweeters in them which makes the high end good too.
The speakers come with a dongle to control the sound and level of bass and includes an input for something like a discman/ipod and for headphones.
I was looking at the LogitechX-530's as well which are around the same price. I haven't heard these speakers, but I can't imagine they would be any better than these.
Overall, really great value for money and sound ...
Advantages: Durable, Light, Cheap, Good Sound Quality Disadvantages: Software could be simpler
I've had this unit for over a year now. I got it to use with my laptop for my 5.1 LogitechX530 speakers and just to improve the sound quality when on the go.
First off I'd like to say if you have a low budget and you need an external sound card then this is the best buy! Although I dont see the point of having one for a PC since internal ones are better and dont use your CPU power, its a great little gadget for all the laptop owners like me.
The remote that comes with it is a great little addition for watching movies (so that you dont have to get up :p) and also for just listening to music, works from quite a distance. Another benefit of this Sound Blaster is that its looks high tech! fits in well on my desk with my laptop and external LaCie HD.
Another great thing about it is all the features that you get as with all other ...
Advantages: 5.1 sound anywhere you like Disadvantages: Feels a bit flimsy & cheap, lack of internal mic support?
'm straying away from the point and even further from the actual product.
My laptop being new, came with 5.1 sound capability built in; however, here is where my problems began. My old set of 5.1 speakers were relatively cheap and plugged into the computer with just one plug, I recently treated myself to a set of rather more substantial Logitechx-530 speakers. Still 5.1 but considerably more beefy and with extremely increased sound quality over my old speakers. Being the more advanced set they were however, they came with 3 different jacks to plug into the computer. Ohhhh dear. After a bit of very un-male instruction manual reading it became clear that each group of speakers had its own plug - the front ones, the back ones and the central speaker all had their own plug - I had only one socket for speakers on my laptop however. Manufacturer's product description
Plug the Logitech X-530 into your PC, music player, DVD player, or even your PlayStation or Xbox game console and immerse yourself in clean, crisp, consistent surround sound from your games, movies, and more. The high-tech subwoofer adjusts itself dynamically to deliver distortion-free bass. And the five wall-mountable satellite speakers use Logitech's patented FDD2 technology to eliminate the uneven sound response created by conventional dual-driver designs. The result: a clear, uniform sound field without the "hot spots" and inconsistency of other dual-driver satellites.
