I'm really into music - especially the left-field stuff, mainstream indie, and a bit of rock - both playing and listening. I also like technology, and PC & Xbox 360 games too.

Put simply, these are a gobsmacking set of 2.1 speakers. It's difficult to understand how much work the Logitech engineers put into designing these speakers. The workmanship oozes quality and that is reflected in their performance.
When the delivery van arrived I was surprised to see just how big the box was. On opening the box the polystyrene hides the speakers from view, but then you remove the first layer of polystyrene and the looks of these speakers hit you. Logitech have gone for a stylish, futuristic, silver-and-black look for their flagship 2.1 speakers, and they're certainly not the sort of thing you'd be embarrassed to have sitting on your desk. However, the subwoofer is truly huge in an effort to increase the power behind the low notes. With the bass and volume both turned up, you will know that this is a worthwhile feature. However, if you're cramped for space under your desk, these are not the speakers for you - don't believe the pictures which make it look like a smallish cube.
The speakers are easy to connect and set up; there are 6 connections to make which is really quite simple all things considered. There is a jack-plug for each speaker which plugs into the subwoofer, a power cable for the subwoofer, a connector between the wired remote control and the subwoofer and a jack-plug from the remote to the PC. The wires are not particularly long, but ignore complaints from other reviews that they are too short. They are fine for normal desktop use.
The satellites themselves are mindblowing in quality. The phase-plug drivers ensure there is minimal cross-over from sounds produced within the satellite. In practice this means that the sound will always travel in a straight line, in whichever direction the speakers are pointing. Finding the centre of the sound is easy - point both speakers towards you making sure they are roughly equidistant and bingo. Being made of a soft-plastic compound ensures audio fidelity is at a max while still being durable - the best material for drivers is ultra-thin paper, but that is impractical. They are not in the least bit tinny, and there is a reflex enclosure hole to ensure huge volumes can be achieved with no loss of quality. The high and mid-range sounds (ones you will hear in music) are crystal-clear and with a decent sound card like Creative's new X-Fi you cannot go wrong on quality.
I'll say it again- the subwoofer is massive. When the box arrived I had trouble carrying it up the stairs, and squeezing it into the space I had planned for it under the desk (on a mini-shelf) was difficult, to say the least. The measurements you see on the website do not include the protruding heatsink at the back and so you should account for this in preparing space. However, it handles sound amazingly. Watching films and playing games, explosions or the roar of a jet engine, the speakers deliver thundering bass which makes the room shake. You'll need deaf neighbors, but the subwoofer will blow you away. Literally - the reflex enclosure sucks small objects in on full volume.
To be honest, £80 is quite a competitive price. Creative's high-endstereo speakers, the Megaworks 250D, deliver s lightly lower quality and are currently very hard to get in the UK. I could only find them on www.ebuyer.com (£96) and they offer terrible shipping rates. All in all, these mind-blowing speakers are definitely best-buy if you're an audio buff looking for high-end 2.1 speakers.
