Previously I have owned several speaker and sub woofer sets; a cheap logitech and a sony set the two most recent. However when I broke my previous set, by tripping over the wire that plugs into my laptop I thought that I would search the market for some really good speakers that do my assortment of music justice and allow me to enjoy what the music that I love, but for so long have put up with poor examples of it through cheap speakers. To be honest until I purchased my Logitech Z 3e speakers I didn't actually realize how bad my old ones had been. Once they arrived I set it up and tested the sound and bass, I kept expecting the speakers to crackle or strain but the volume kept going up until it was me who buckled and was afraid the neighbours would complain. I am now settled with my speakers (and new neighbours) and have my little controller set to low which is still ample.
The weight of the speakers is good as well because they remind you of their quality but also on a more productive note they do not move around when played at high volume which is a problem I have experienced with other ones.
I have never had a device like the little controller that comes with these speakers and it takes no time at all to get used to and prefer using it instead of fiddling around with the speakers to turn it up or down. It also looks nice. The headphone socket is useful but almost all laptops and computers have that option now and I just plug my headphones into my laptop when my neighbours get annoyed with the constant barrage of good music of exceptional quality. The controller is quite large though and I can imagine on a small desk it could look quite chunky.
A big plus for me was the length of the wires that come with this system. Before having to plug the speakers into a plug, my laptop and find a suitable place to put them (show them off) AND plug in the sub was a pain with little short wires. That pain is a thing of the past now and I can comfortably move them around (with no worry of tripping up on them) or finding another plug.
The bass on the sub (thanks to some patented technology developed by scientists in a soundproof Logitech lab somewhere) is brilliant. My music often has deep heavy bass and the sub deals with it brilliantly, I like the speakers have this turned only, about just below, half so there is much room for even improved sound. Again thanks to the lengthy wires this can be placed somewhere sensible now.
The whole set as overall has been one of my best purchases and I can now never return to normal speakers and listen to only average quality music ever again. I have been very impressed with them and would recommend them to anyone especially people who enjoy their music but before have been worried about putting a bit more money into their system. Purchase and enjoy.
The system is very easy to set up and enjoy and having not experienced any problems I have not had any contact with the manufacture, but if the quality of the set is this good urely the after sale service is not ignored.
Advantages: Stylish, Loud, Good value for money Disadvantages: Crackle a little at full volume
...old and dying then the Logitech Z 3e are a perfect choice for you.
I was weary about the wired remote as I have always been use to the volume, bass, and treble controls on the right speaker. However, the seperate unit for volume and bass/treble is very useful and easy to use. The headphone port on the controller, I have yet to use it as I have a headphone port on the front of my computer, plus, I never use headphones!! (What's the point in spending ... ...in headphones?)

I haven't used a more powerful sub for PC speakers and it is just brilliant, full volume and full bass makes the whole house move, quite literally! The speakers can handle certain music full volume such as classical and some film soundtracks, they do not work so well with rock and pop music. ...

Quick review of Logitech Z 3e
I have bought a nice 50"1080P Panasonic TV and the picture is great, however the sound is rubish.
I considered using a 5.1 surround sound but could not face all those trailing wires and speakers sprouting up in the middle of my sitting room floor.
I decided that all I wanted was good quality stereo. So I wandered into Curreys and looked for something with a bit more oomph than an average "plastic speakers".
So, because the box looked nice and it was not too expensive I left carrying a Logitech Z3E.
It's perfect, easy to set up, sounds great, looks nice. Lovely base and clear sound for both music and speech and even has the ability to deafen the neighbours. Wonderfull. Highly recomended. Wish the remote was wireless though. ...

Manufacturer's product description
With its brushed aluminum faces and ebony styling, the Logitech Z-3e speaker system will dress up any workspace, whether it's in your home office, bedroom, or living room. The only thing that's more impressive than the Z-3e's great looks is its sound quality. Its two phase plug satellite speakers, which feature brushed aluminum removable grilles and durable cast metal stands, deliver crystal clear, room-filling music, dialogue, and sound effects. And thanks to its patented, award-winning pressure driver subwoofer technology, you'll hear all the bass you expect - and depending on how loud you turn up the subwoofer, you'll feel all the bass, too.
