Jaqueline Wilson is an amazing writer, and has won multiple awards for her books. Her books are mostly aimed at pre-teens although she has also written a few books for older teenagers.
I bought this book when I was 12 (2003, when it was first published). I had always loved Jaqueline Wilson books, which was he reasn I bought it. It's still on my shelf now, so I've re-read it and I still love it as much as I used to! I have the hardbook version and the paperbook front cover is different to mine! The paperbook version looks like it's for a younger audience. The book covers the issue on violent parents.
Jayni is 11 (I think! Well she's in year 6 so that would make her 10 or 11!) and lives with her mum dad and younger brother Kenny. The book starts with Jayni's mum winning the lottery. She wins £10,000 on a scratch card. Jayni begs her mum not to tell her abusive dad about the money. (Jayni's dad (Jay) hits Nikki (Jayni's mum)However, when her dad comes back, he treats them like royalty so Nikki does tell him that she won the money and that they could buy the car that he needed for a new job (he had a row at work so he had walked out). So the family go out for dinner to celebrate. However the night ends in tears. When they get back from the restraunt, Jayni annoys her dad by not going to bed and he slaps her for the first time, so hard shes on the floor. Nikki is shocked and starts hitting Jay so he hits her. Then she's on the floor. Then Jay storms out to the pub.
As soon as he's gone Nikki tells Jayni to pack hers and kennys bag. They're running away. Jayni immediatley does what shes told and packs. They escape and get the train down to London, where they stay in a hotel. They still have pretty much all the scratch card money. Nikki decides they need to change their namesto stay undetected by Jay. So Nikki becomes Victoria Luck, Jayni, Lola Rose Luck, Kenny (who dosen't get it and wants to go home) Kendall Luck.
So they start their new life and all seems to be going well. Kendall and Lola Rose have started school and have new friends and Victoria has a job in the local pub. They also now have a proper place to live, a flat given to them by a special housing association, which they make cosy with scond hand furniture and paint. Victoria even has a new boyfriend Jake!

Jayni/Lola Rose - The main character. It's very easy to relate to Jayni, and you can easily understand why and how shes feeling. Kenny/Kendall - Jayni's little brother who dosen't understand whats going on properly. Jay always had a soft spot for Kenny so he thinks everything was okay. Nikki/Victoria - Jayni's mum who got abused by Jay Jay - Jayni's father who abuses Nikki.
This book moves me even now as it's very sad and the ending isn't really a happy one. It covers an important issue which happens in reality. I don't know if younger readers would understand the end part of the book! But it's still a good read even for readers a lot older than 10-13ish.
Advantages: really good very detailed Disadvantages: none really
This book Lola Rose was brought out last year by Jacqueline Wilson a famous award winning author. This book isnt part of a series and can be bought from most book shops and some supermarket for £10.99 ($24.95) or less. I dont want to give to much of the story away but I will tell you a bit about the characters and the story line. I would suggest that this book would be readable for the ages 11 and above due to the story line.
The main characters ... ...there names and Jayni becomes Lola Rose, Nikki becomes Victoria and Kenny bcomes kendall. There life isnt going to be as good as they expect when there money starts to run out. Lola Rose doesnt like her mums new job working in a bar and isnt so keen on her boy friend either but what really strikes her is when she finds out her mum is really ill. What will happen to Jayni find out for yourself abosolutely brilliant and a very touching story. The book ...

Advantages: A touching tale by my favourite author Disadvantages: none!
...the opportunity to get creative. Lola Rose is her new name! But her life isn't as glamourous as her name. She doesn't like several of the decisions her mother makes and when she finds out about her mother, decides to take matters into her own hands....
I borrowed this off my mate because I prefer not to buy books because they can be really expensive. Jacqueline Wilson is one of my favourite authors and Nick Sharrat is my favourite illustrator so ... ...bit about each character
Lola Rose/Jayni
Lola Rose is very responsible for she is the most sensible one who sees the reality of everything and can get very worried.
Nikki/Victoria
Silly and flirtatious and quite a push over too since she let Jay abuse her like that and she still takes him back!
Kenny
Since he is quite young, he doesn't understand what's happening quite a lot of the time and he doesn't worry but throws tantrums alot.
Jay
Violent ...

Advantages: Well designed cover, detailed storyline, fabulous unexpected twists. Disadvantages: That there isn't a follow up book!
With it's striking cover, Lola Rose takes you on a real rollercoaster of emotions. Narrated by Jayni, the story is told through the eyes of a tweenager and is set in a flat where she lives with her mum, Nikki, her dad, Jay, and her younger brother Kenny in a small suburb.
The story starts off with Jayni telling how her mum won ten thousand pounds on a scratchcard and how she would want to spend it. Her mum keeps this a secret however from her dad ... ...becoming Kendall and Jayni becoming Lola Rose. Along with their new names comes a new home, school, friends, a brand new wardrobe and soon enough a brand new boyfriend for Jayni's mum.
As they slowly watch their winnings disappear on new belongings, Victoria (Nikki) becomes ill and it leaves Lola Rose having to grow up very quickly. With the help of an old family member, the family see a new light and face their fears together.
A brilliant read ...

plans for the future may be affected. But can she guess at the true reasons behind it all?" - Plot
JacquelineWilson has written many famous books such as Tracy Beaker, LolaRose and The Illustrated Mum and she seems to always write about certain problems that children and teenagers may face like being in care, running away from home, abuse, divorce and family problems. Her writing style is very unique and I have noticed that lots of the characters have similar characteristics. In Bad Girls, The Illustrated Mum, Love Lessons and Kiss at least one person in them that is very artistic, and in some of her other books I have noticed that a lot of them have been very imaginative. I have read a lot of her books in the past and I always like to get them from the bookshelf and read them again whenever I have the chance. Most of the books she has ...
