Advantages: its limits are as far as your imagination goes Disadvantages: very basic
As a photography student I have tried a lot of camera's in my time, and the holga oddly enough is one of my favourites (along with the mamiya 7 or fugi 6 x 9 standard, if anyone is interested).
It is basically a plastic toy camera with a built in flash (powered by two AA batts, and with colour gels). It takes 120 film (with a 6 x 6 mask), and has a plastic lens which you can focus from about a metre away to infinity (the holga can actually ... ...closer than a metre). It has two shutter speeds, B and 125 with f/8, with a cloudy and sunny setting.
It is a very basic camera, a point and shoot sort of thing. I've had some fantastic shots, but also some awful ones too. Its a super little camera just to play with. You can do a lot with it, from multi exposures to running 35mm through it.
I wouldn't pay £45 for this camera though, I think I got mine for £20 on ebay and ... more

I wouldn't pay £45 for this camera though, I think I got mine for £20 on ebay and i would say it is well worth this money. I also invested in something that lets me use a cable release on it, which is brilliant if you plan to use the B setting.
If I was asked would I recommend this camera to anyone i would say "not for everyone, those who know a little about photography and want to experiment", it is not for anyone that wishes to get perfect picture after picture!!!! Because you wont!
I do love it though, it has given me some wonderful shots and I will continue using it (along side my 'real' cameras). I would however say, tape the back up :o)
Advantages: Original picture, very cheap Disadvantages: Bad quality, bad battery functions
For someone it may be a piece that you can sell to the musem. Well, it looks like. First appeared in 1982, and was the best in China. I thought the same as all - doesn't worth it. But, I tried, and was astonished. The picture had a colorful aspect and a large resolution. The black circle around the image made it special. Now, i don't regret the money. For your collection, it's awesome :) I don't recommend it for those who want to be really satisfied ...
