Advantages Advantages Friendly people, good level of education

Disadvantages Disadvantages Awful area, no gym on-site

I'm currently in my second year (well I've only got exams left now for this year) at Goldsmiths College studying English Literature and I know exactly how hard it can be to choose the right uni so hopefully in this review I'll tell you exactly how it is here.... A lot of the people studying at Goldsmiths live in halls of residence nearby or in local rented accomodation but for those travelling from further afield you have several options. Firstly for those travelling by the joy that is the London Underground, Goldsmiths can be reached by either getting off at New Cross station or New Cross ... more

    Advantages Advantages UoL

Disadvantages Disadvantages Social life if not into Indie

I studies at Goldsmiths in 05/06 academic year and I was studying Media and Sociology. My time here was one of many up and downs. After my first year I decided not to go back and chose to study elsewhere, but don't let that put you off, Goldsmiths may not have been for me but that does not mean it's not for you. A major thing that appealed to me regarding Goldsmiths, which was founded in early 1891, was it being part of the University Of London (UoL). Goldsmiths accompanies many other prestigious universities in the UoL, which is made up of 31 affiliates, which are 19 colleges and 12 ... more

    User doesn't recommend the product

Advantages Advantages accommodation, student union, good for artsy people

Disadvantages Disadvantages the course, the area, facilities, not the friendliest of places

The Course: I was really disappointed with the course that I was doing here. They had promised to teach us so many things at the beginning of the year, which they never did. Despite the continuous complaints, nothing was ever done and we were just told that we had to teach ourselves all the software. The quality of this course was so bad that it resulted in many drop-outs. I came out of the first year feeling like I hadn't learnt anything and hadn't been challenged in any way. The Area: The area was really dodgy and there was nothing much to do there. Getting into London was difficult because ... more

    Advantages Advantages Arty, lively atmosphere

Disadvantages Disadvantages Located in dodgy New Cross

If you fancy hanging out in a pretty creative, arty environment in a highly regarded London college south of the River Thames, then Goldsmiths’ is the place for you. Goldsmiths' College is part of the University of London and can be found in New Cross, within the London Borough of Lewisham, South East London. The main site is located on the busy New Cross Road, while there are various other college buildings scattered around the area. There are several halls of residence nearby for students, varying in size and quality. If you end up in a shared student house, this is at least a reasonably ... more

Advantages Advantages Fantastic social network, large gay population, central location

Disadvantages Disadvantages poor post graduate employment rates, poor resources

Goldsmiths is one of those colleges where everyone seems to be having a great time all the time, however this wears thin after a while. I found Goldsmiths to be under-resourced and at times the staff just didn't seem to care about the welfare of the students. Of all the colleges currently operating in London, Goldsmiths actually has one of the worst post graduate employment rates. Yes, this is partly because it is a predominantly art based college, but I have many friends who did not find the Goldsmiths name helpful in gaining employment. For those whose idea of success is not measured in ... more
