"Long Tall Janie"

My profile photo doesn't really show the fact that I'm actually 5 foot 9! Now this does have it's advantages but equally disadvantages. Clothes shopping is and can be a nightmare if I don't go to the right shops. The biggest brand shops are now doing 'tall' sections like New Look, Dorothy Perkins, H&M and many more. They are good but trousers are still a bit of a problem. I would end up having to go the next size up and having the waist inches to big! It was horrible and not great I got recommended a shop in Edinburgh called "Long Tall Sally" which is for women who are tall!

Long Tall Sally

It is a clothing range and shop designed for women over 5 foot 8. It is a fairly old brand, first developed in 1976 for tall models orignially. A year later though there was a gap in the market and now has 22 shops all over the UK. It was sold and taken over and is now the sister company of Kookai. It ranges from sizes 10 to 20 and has leg lengths up to 36".

My friends and I (most of them tall, one being 6 foot 1) decided to go into Edinburgh. So 3 of us headed down to Long Tall Sally which was in the Grassmarket part of Edinburgh. As we entered it looked really really good. The layout of clothes was excellent and clear. There were neutral colored walls which made the clothes really stand out. The lighting was good (I mention that as in Topshop once it was really dark which was annoying.) The shop looked really good and appealing. There were steps to the next floor were the changing rooms were which is a disadvantage for disabled users.
Range Of Clothes

The reason I was there, the clothes. The clothes are very fashionable, and range from casual to smart to nightwear. I was looking for 2 pairs of jeans and a nice top. Looking around, I was surrounded by beautiful clothes that I would love to have! However I got looking for jeans. The shop offered many different types including flared, skinny, wide leg etc. I was looking for a skinny pair and flared. I am a size 14 and was easily able to find them. Now looking for tops. I was very happy with the selection of different tops available. They also have shoes now from size 6 to 10! I'm a size 8 and you can get shoes but it really is difficult to get nice ones. The shoes on offer look incredible. The range of clothes and shoes were excellent. There really is something for everyone, but it is more for young adults and middle agers.
Lengths And Sizes

The sizes offered are very good. Since I'm a size 14 there is nothing I can't buy as every bit of clothing is that size. Since it is suitable for all women size 10 to 20 that over 5 foot 8 that is not a very big market. However if you yourself do fit into that category then this really is the shop for you. Leg lengths are 32' 34' and 36' so very handy if you have long legs. Tops are longer but to vary from top to top. An excellent selection of well fitted sizes.
Changing Rooms

I had to mention this. They were excellent. In front of you is a big, very tall mirror. The room is quite wide and has lots of room and hooks to hang on the clothes you are trying on. The lighting is very good and 'honest!' It is a curtain close, and they are quite heavy so it would be difficult for anyone to have a quick peak in a hurry. Nice lay out of fitting rooms and was very pleased. The only thing they lacked was a chair or stool inside it, as there would have easily been room.
Customer Service

When I was looking for the right jeans and what the shop had on offer, I asked one of the sales assistants. There were 2 women in the shop, and another appearing from the back of the shop once or twice. Since it wasn't a very big shop it seemed like just enough. Asking my question was very easy and I got a very helpful reply. She offered me advice and was able to offer me different items. She was very helpful and useful.
At the till the other women was very nice and pleasent. She offered me to be put onto the Long Tall Sally catalogue list for free which I took up the offer as I'm not up in Edinburgh very often. She put the newest summer/autumn catalogue a long with my purchases which was good. Then she said goodbye. Overall customer service was excellent and very helpful.

This is were there is a bit of a let down. Because it is quite an exclusive shop with not that much competition it can cost a lot. 2 pairs of jeans cost me £70 and a jade green tank top with under skirt cost me £25. Although I loved them it is a lot to pay to compared to what I was paying with other stores. But you are buying into quality and the clothes I know will last a very long time. The jeans I have had for around 2 months and are still in excellent condition. They are actually both my only pairs of fitting jeans as well! Looking at the catalogue, a lot of the clothes are definately made to last and to get quality use out of them. If you don't mind paying that bit extra, then this is the shop for you.
Celebrity Endorsement

The shop has had a couple of celebrity moments. Lisa out of "Next Top Model" is now the main model of the company. She is very tall and absolutely beautiful, and a great asset to the company. On the website she has her own section called 'Lisa Loves' which is her own recommendations from certain collections from Long Tall Sally. It has also been featured on Gok Wan's "How To Look Good Naked" for one women who was around 5 foot 9. Gok is my fashion god so if he uses the shop then it has my full support. It is also popular with other models, who find looking for fashionable yet long clothes.

After signing up with the catelogue I thought I would give the website a go. I haven't bought anything from it yet but do plan to in the future (around the next 4-6 months.) The website looks at first glance, a fashion conscious site with lovely pictures of tall (and very tall) models. The categories available show off the big available, from smart to maternity, from gym to casual. There is a lot to choose from and the website is nice and easy to follow. Down at the bottom is Tall Village/Team which is made up of blogs and stories of tall women associated with the company. To take one as an example, one women is 6 foot and found it very hard to find clothes that fit. And that she has now discovered Long Tall Sally it is brilliant. This is a very good idea and was nice to read some of the stories and read some of the blogs. Will update if/when I buy anything on the website.

This is an excellent shop. If you are a tall women then this is for you. Trousers, the hardest thing I personally and assume others with have problems with length then get to a shop or on the website. So tall girls, get to Long Tall Sally and be fashionable and well fitted. A really excellent shop!

Janie x
