If you only read one biographical work in your lifetime then make it this one. Mandela's story is truly inspirational from start to finish. His story of the childhood struggle through poverty, how he got his education and how he encountered prejudice upon prejudice in his young life is truly moving. The account of the early political struggles against apartheid and the treatment that he, and his comrades, were dealt by the white government is shocking and makes this man's achievement all the more remarkable. Through years of struggle against prejudice he sticks to his cause and is rewarded with a long stay in an extremely harsh prison. Even through this Mandela conveys hope and optimism that one day his dream of an apartheid-free nation will one day come to fruition. The story is a truly uplifting experience. You will become a better person for reading this book. Persist with it; it's a long story, but one that is worth reading every last page. If any man deserves your attention this much it's Nelson Mandela.
