UPDATED JUNE 2002 When we lived in London we used Loot to sell unwanted items. We managed to sell all sorts of things, from cars to computers. Everything we had for sale sold within a matter of weeks. It was very convenient and FREE. We moved away from London 4 years ago, and thought that it would be the end of this!
Fortunately we discovered Loot.com, which is the on-line version. So how does this work?
In order to advertise on Loot, you need to register. This is free and simple, and similar to many of the other on-line registration forms. Your e-mail address is your username, and you are given a password. Of course, if you only want to browse advertisements, you don’t need to register.
Once you have registered, you can log into the site. This enables you to place an advert. There are a number of stages to this:
1. Chose whether you want to place a FreeAd or a free AuctionAd. State whether it is an item offered for sale or wanted. All adverts will appear on-line, but you need to decide whether you also want it to appear in a printed version, and if so, which.
2. Write a heading for your advert (maximum 3 words) and the text. You can then state the price, and choose whether you want the price to be as stated, or nearest offer, etc. You can then select whether you want your telephone number and e-mail address in the advert. You are asked to give a contact number (which doesn’t appear in the advert) in case of query.
3. You are then shown a preview of your advert. You can either submit it or go back and make changes.
After you have placed an advert it is checked by Loot for style and obvious spelling errors, and submitted – this usually takes a day or two. Internet-based adverts appear for two weeks, and you can place as many adverts as you like in the online edition. If you chose to place an ad in the London or Manchester printed editions, you will be allowed to place a total of three adverts, including any you are renewing.
Renewing an advert is easy – you simply log into the site and hit the renew button. All your current adverts will be shown, and you select which one to renew.
Loot will also delete an advert if you have sold the item and are still receiving lots of enquiries.
I have used the on-line version a number of times, and have found it very easy to use. More importantly, it is successful, and I have managed to sell the items at the price I wanted. One further advantage is that you can browse other adverts to get an idea of the prices being charged by other sellers.
If you want a bit more excitement, place an auction ad - you may even get a better price for the item you are selling!
Advantages: Free ads, massive amount of adverts Disadvantages: Competition - "can't see the wood for the trees"

ABOUT LOOT
Loot newspaper is published three times a week in a number of regional editions. Each of the editions is colour coded so that, for example, the paper published on a Sunday is gold, whereas the one published on a Friday is peach. The colour of the paper bears no relevance to the content – the variations are intended solely to enable consumers to ensure at a glance that they have picked up the right paper. Loot is probably ... ...or collection.
Localisation. The Loot papers are published regionally, which means that the catchment area of potential buyers is very local. This means that most people will come to your house to collect the item, which will mean a speedier, easier transaction for both parties.
Specialisation. The Loot listings are arranged in great detail, so that potential buyers can easily find the product they are looking for. This means ...

...to find a new home. Loot is published every other day in London at least, I don't know about the rest of the country: it has regional editions. It costs 1.40 and for London at least, is by far and away the best way of finding a place to live. From flatshares to six-week short lets, family houses to penthouse suites, they're all here in their thousands, and there really is no better place to look. Not that Loot's fabulousness is evident when you first ... ...designed. Everything in Loot is in categories, just to make things easier, usually by price. There are places to buy but most are to rent: there are sections for flats, flatshares, rooms, studios, and short lets. Within those, categories are listed by location, tho this is something Loot users are very used to being wary of. Everyone wants to sell their property, and like estate agents many Loot people are happy to bend the truth a little. Don't ...

>>>What is Loot?… Loot is basically a free ads newspaper and online version. The paper edition costs £1.30 and is readily available from the areas below and has 3 editions each week. >>>My Experience… I have used loot now for about 2 years and have sold many items, without any problems. It is free to place an advert that can be displayed both on the Internet and in the paper edition available at newsagents. Loot is available in the following areas; ... ...>>> Summary: Loot is VERY easy to use and the website is very reliable and quick. Once you have placed your advert, it appears on the net 1st and depending on when your ad is placed will then appear in one of the newspaper editions. Then just wait for the calls to come flooding in. Best to have an answer phone or give your mobile number so you don’t miss that all-important call. ...

...buy without any hassle then loot is the place to do it. The actual paper copy is around £1.50, however if you don't fancy being flush with your cash then you can just enter your details about what you want to sell or buy directly on their website, and its so easy to do. Once you've registered and entered your goods for selling or buying they will appear on-line 24hrs after you've sent it to them under the appropriate category which you asked for, ... ...a great place to get rid or buy goods from. However please note that you don't always get the Cartier watch you ask for, its probably a fake if they have advertised it in the paper, so don't be mislead and ask plenty of questions before you go ahead with any purchase. ...

I find that "Micro Computer Mart" is an excellent magazine for finding bargains, systems, components, software, etc. from both companies and private sellers. I have both bought and sold through them and I have never had any problems receiving goods or payment. Most of the private ads include post and packing (except the larger items!) and private ads are FREE too so it's like "Loot" or "Exchange and Mart" but computer specific.
The magazine has computer news articles, features and reviews, I think it's an ideal magazine for finding prices of both new and second-hand items. It only costs £1.10 and is out every Thursday. ...
If you are in the United Kingdom and wish to place a free advert, wanted article or make bids then go to loot.com. It is actually the only site of it?s kind that I have ever come across. I haven?t yet bought anything on there but I have sold some things that I would not have accomplished advertising anywhere else. You should just visit the site and take a little look around. I really think it is worth it and if you want to sign up then it is all free, the adverts are free to place as well. ...
