Lost Odyssey is an immense game that fits into the RPG genre and it was developed by Mistwalker Studios and published by Microsoft Game Studios exclusively for the Xbox 360. The game was released in February (29th) 2008 and produced by the "master of all RPG's" Hironobu Sakaguchi, the man that brought the world Final Fantasy and other legendary classics.
The opening cut scene shows us a mighty, grim battle taking place between warring nations; The Uhrans and the Khents. The battle is gruesome as both sides strike mercilessly, swords raining down, striking foes. The first three minutes are enough to grip the majority of RPG fans out there. The main hero is then introduced whereby he flies through the fray taking down numerous amounts of enemies, striking the player with a sense of awe, all the while keeping that cool-headed look about him. On the battlefield, the player first gets to test out the main protagonist and the battle system as there is a "tutorial" fight against the enemy weaponry. When your hero is victorious, the rest of the cut scene pursues, ending rather tragically.
These graphics, cinematic and gameplay are absolutely stunning. Players will be simply captivated by this and will be left thirsting for more…
The player now takes control of the hero of this tale; a character known as Kaim Argonar, a man with no recollection of his memories and who has lived for one thousand years. He is one of five "immortals" that the game reveals as the story progresses. As Kaim's story develops, he begins to claim back the thousand years of memories that pain him so, most often through his dreams. Players can choose, at any time while the party rests, to recap the dreams previously uncovered.
In towns and outposts, the player can explore the area, always keeping an eye out for hidden treasures because there are a lot of them. Towns usually have an inn where the party can rest and heal and damages they may have sustained. The gameplay is turn-based control in battle which is the typical style found in many RPG's, similar to the older Final Fantasy series. Battles occur randomly in field maps which is another common element to this genre. In addition to just fighting is that party members can be equipped with different types of rings. If a character has such a thing equipped there is a chance to deal extra damage when attacking, provided you can master this system to perfection. When the character selected runs forward to attack a large ring appears around the enemy. This is when the player holds down a button on the control pad then releases it and, if timed correctly, will get a "good" or a "perfect". If a "bad" comes up, no extra damage will be done. For those perfectionists out there, you will endeavour to get perfect every time, guaranteed.
Naturally, melee attacks are fast responses, whereas certain special skills and the casting of magic's take a great deal longer to perform. It is always a good idea to make sure your magic caster is well protected in the back row at all times.
Players in the back row are protected by a special wall at the beginning of each battle. This wall ensures less damage is taken by the back row party members. But as the front row takes damage, the special wall begins to deteriorate. The "wall" health bar is in the right hand corner of the game screen. Once the wall meter has depleted, the back row take large amounts of damage when attacked.
The player takes charge of "mortals" and "immortals" during the course of the game. "Mortals" learn skills by equipping accessories and through levelling up. If the player wants an "immortal" to learn skills, they must link that character up with one of the party members that are "mortal". Skill points are acquired at the end of every battle provided you are victorious. You need these to complete the learning of your skills.
The game is full of humour, one character in particular that is specifically designed to make the player laugh. Lost Odyssey is a fantastic story full of sorrow, humour, deceit and many twists. Any fan of RPG's or even just a good storyline, it is recommended that you consider adding this game to your collection.
Advantages: Immersive story, fantastic graphics, cool characters, huge game. Disadvantages: Maybe not original enough?
Lost Odyssey is a Role Playing Game that was created by the same creator behind the legendary Final Fantasy series. Understandably the game had a lot of hype behind it, and in my opinion the game is a huge success. The adventure begins in a battlefield where two heavily armoured sides fight one another, with huge magic driven machines aiding each side. Kaim, the player controlled character is fighting for Uhra, and he single-handed begins to turn ... ...him an "Immortal". Kaim has lost all of his memories, and on the way to regaining all 1000 years of them he reveals a twisted plot to rule the world, stored in his own brain. It then becomes his duty; along with several other characters he meets along the way, to stop this evil plan. The game is set in a magical continent, which has recently progressed through a "Magic Revolution" in where the citizens have discovered how to use magic, and in turn ...

Advantages: Old-School JRPG, Looks Well, Lasts Long, Worth The Money Disadvantages: Maybe A Bit Too Hard For Some
...as coasters. But in comes Lost Odyssey, does it re-invent the JRPG? Does it bring a fresh new battle system? Is it a revolution? The answer is no, it does none of these things, but that isn't necessarily a bad thing. The strength of Lost Odyssey is held in the fact that it sticks to close to traditional JRPGs, it actually brings back those fond memories of gaming days past.
The story, which is central to any RPG, revolves around an "Immortal" name ... ...with his immortality and has lost his memory, so you must set out to recover your memory and also get to the bottom of the massacre. The story is deep and engrossing, its for a mature audience, involving many twists and turns and a whole lot of political fun. Lost odyssey is a brilliant story driven game created by the mastermind who brought us the final fantasy series. Lost odyssey is Hironobu Sakaguchi's second attempt at a jrpg afta leaving Square Enix.
Story:
The story of the game is not based on just one character but for characters who in the game are names immortals because they cannot die. After a meteor strikes a war and wipes out both armies only 1 warrior was left standing Kaim Argonar. After ... ...more damage.
Visuals;
Graphically Lost Odyssey is stunning!!! it shows that the xbox 360 still have some hidden power still left inside. Clearly to me this has to be the best looking game on the console. However with all these great visuals there are some flaws such as long load time during battles and cutscenes and some drops in framerate during battle. Drops in framerates can easily be ignored but long load times during cutscenes ruin the experience. ...
