Lost Odyssey is a Role Playing Game that was created by the same creator behind the legendary Final Fantasy series. Understandably the game had a lot of hype behind it, and in my opinion the game is a huge success.
The adventure begins in a battlefield where two heavily armoured sides fight one another, with huge magic driven machines aiding each side. Kaim, the player controlled character is fighting for Uhra, and he single-handed begins to turn the tide of the battle. That is until a mysterious magic force plunges a meteor into the battlefield, killing everyone there. Kaim only survives due to his unique magic abilities that make him an "Immortal". Kaim has lost all of his memories, and on the way to regaining all 1000 years of them he reveals a twisted plot to rule the world, stored in his own brain. It then becomes his duty; along with several other characters he meets along the way, to stop this evil plan. The game is set in a magical continent, which has recently progressed through a "Magic Revolution" in where the citizens have discovered how to use magic, and in turn how to build machines with their new powers.
The gameplay is pretty similar to any RPG game that is available, with random battles appearing when walking around various fields, and the player levelling up dependant on how well he or she performs in these battles. However Lost Odyssey's gameplay is so much better than other RPG's currently available simply because of the huge scope it has. The game takes place across three disks, and there are hundreds of different items, abilities and weapons to gather up to make your character as powerful as possible. This makes the game completely addictive and enthralling. The game will take well over 30 or 40 hours to complete. However it will take well over 100 hours if you are aiming to get all your players stats and levels maxed out.
The storyline of the game is also very well written, with powerful dialogue and touching cutscenes appearing at regular intervals. Unlike some RPG's the cutscenes and dialogue do not slow down the progress of the game, and there are only a few occasions throughout the game that don't have any exploring or fighting to do.
The graphics of the game are also extraordinary, and this is by far the best looking RPG of this format that has ever been produced, with the possible exception of Mass Effect. The settings of the game show a great amount of detail, and so do the characters and enemies. There are some really stunning cutscenes in Lost Odyssey too, and often they are near photorealistic.
Finally, the sound of this game is very good. There is a great deal of voice acting stored on the disk, as well as some very well composed pieces of music for various settings. The sound effects that go with various battles and animations are also of a good standard and suit the feel of the game very well.
Overall I highly recommend this game, as it is great value for money because of the sheer volume of content, and also because of the immersive storyline and brilliant graphics. It is definitely one of the best games on Xbox 360, and RPG fans everywhere are sure to fall in love with it.
