Exactly like - racing bolides, only double.
First - on an oval track. Trampling in a floor a pedal of gas and touching the pulled together drives, I have instantly reached the high-speed barrier resolved on a track in 140 km / h. Though, I admit fairly, from motor I expected the greater. Certainly, for roadster in weight only 700 kg of it of 120 forces suffice, especially at a "short" power train. But it is hurt noise the engine on high revolutions. If on a head the racing helmet was...
Braking drives, has unintentionally crackled a box - the gear of switching could work and is more precise. Has tried brakes. A pedal not heavy, despite lacking the vacuum servo, and rather informative. And the rudder here very sharp, and on it is felt all up to the smallest details - each turning movement is accompanied by significant jet effort. Probably, I have preferred rudder "more easy"...
Usually, when business reaches extreme driving, car with average motor configurations can appear especially artful - hold a trajectory up to the last, and then are sharply broken in almost unguided slide. But Elise it is adjusted more safely. Distribution of weight here - as at back motor Porsche 911: on a front axle it is necessary 39 % of weight, and on rear - 61 %. And tires are picked up appropriate: forward 15-inch tire covers more narrow, and rear 16-inch - more widely. And consequently at roadster the solid under steer - Elise all over again slides forward wheels outside of turning movement. But at provocative actions nevertheless it is broken in drift, and it is sharp enough. Fast turning movement of a rudder aside drift - and clutch with asphalt is restored. Too it is sharp, but nevertheless slide can be steered.
However then Elise show the insidiousness. I rushed around on platform specially intended for it, groping a limit of lateral forces. And at a critical lateral overcharge about 1,2g when Lotus already "departure" outside, has dumped gas. And roadster on the spot has failed in deep drift!
I ready to such turning movement of events, have instantly unscrewed resting rudder aside drift, but... It Is useless. As if formula bolides after a similar mistake of the racer, Elise rode sideways some tens meters and, having developed, at last have stopped. I have taken breath and have repeated experience. The same result. At dump of gas in limiting turning movement drift and a sharp turn inevitably - I was powerless something to make!
By the way, in one of clauses of the Auto revue engineer Porsche advised in that case... To slow down.
And only on sticking out of asphalt " container" manholes of me decently shook - however, too it is much less, than it was possible to expect from such machine. On my memory one sports car with a similar combination of readability and smoothness of a course - Chrysler Viper, too with the elementary two-lever suspender and too with “ one pipe " Koni was only.
Half an hour on a track have flown by as one minute. I have got out because of a rudder, have said goodbye to the malayan and carried out a sight silvery Lotus Elise. I would like to go by such machine?, certainly, it has delivered pleasures much. But in ears still there was a noise of the motor, the body still itched from fine vibrations, and muscles of hands slightly whined, as if the ambassador carting races. No, me something more comfortable...
But literally in some minutes I have tested the present shock, having left on the same roads on " hot hatchback " Proton Satria GTi. The good car with informative steering steering and a quite good suspender (operational development of version GTi was engaged besides Lotus) after "aluminium" roadster has seemed to me by huge auto truck! I as if was floating above road, sitting on an inflatable sofa, and twisted huge rudder without any effort. The automobile went on a track at all, than Lotus more slowly, but steering of him reminded computer game "Drivers"! Now I understand colleagues from the western automobile editions, which better Lotus Elise up to heavens. Simply driving on it roadster is a unique opportunity to test the present " feeling of the automobile " without intermediaries as all servo amplifiers. And thus Elise it is possible to use in quality car for each day - certainly, being reconciled with loss of comfort.
However even in West Lotus Elise buy, basically, for entertainment - that once a month drive on a paid ring line. And for club races there is also a sports version - Lotus Elise Sport with forced up to 190 l. With. The motor and the road gleam lowered on 50 mm. Everything else it is left without changes. The closest thing you'll get to a road legal go-cart! Lovely lovely lovely car, unfortunately it is absolutely impossible to get into if you'r over midget height! The point is this, the door sill is 20 cm off the ground, the roof is at 50cm....get the point, climbing into this car with the roof on you need to be like Bo and Luke Duke, this is a seriously small car. That being said! My colleague bought one of these at the weekend and we tok it out ... ...pretty tall but you do sit quite snugly, there is a great place to put your fags on the dash...which is about the only storage you get...oooh yeah thers the (ahem) boot , about 50 cm3 right next to the engine....probably the only car with a built in cooker! The impression is very very minimalist which to me is a bit of a turn-off....i like my creature comforts like aircon, elec windows, steering wheel (joke!). Riding in it this is the nearest you ...

Advantages: It's a Lotus, looks amazing, is a true drivers car Disadvantages: They had to help Vauxhall build the bar of soap. No creature comforts. Has Lotus really sorted out the reliability probs and build quality???
...full potential. It seems that Lotus have taken a look at the Germans for build quality, it actually feels very well built! The switch gear, which is borrowed from GM again, feels good to touch, and the main buttons are neatly stacked up on the left side of the wheel. Lotus have extended the "pure driving experience" to include a stereo and some speakers, which is kind of comforting. The hood is easier to get on and off. Still a bit of a fiddle, but ... ...to consider: £24,000 for a LOTUS elise, which looks fantastic but isn't the most comfy everyday car, doesn't have ABS, Powersteering or even power assisted brakes, or £24,000 for a Vauxhall box that has a few creature comforts, like ABS, Aircon, and Powersteering, looks like a bar of soap and has a eight lettered word beginning with V on the front. See my point? I think so..... ...

Advantages: Priced well, great sports all-round. Disadvantages: Not really a 'super-car' and becoming quite commonplace.
This car was released to critical acclaim some few years back, with the Lotus' chairman's niece, funnily enough named 'Elise', sitting in the car. Having driven one of these, I can honestly say I was impressed. The car is basic inside, no doubt, but this is a sports car! The floor is bare, you'll be sitting so low you'll think you're on the ground, but the drive is truly breathtaking. Whilst not what I'd call 'super-quick', that in itself depends ... ...car very easy. It is responsive and sharp; a real quality drive. It's quite small, too, both in terms of body and engine, so it won't drink petrol and it won't be a pain to park. It looks very impressive, too - although not as impressive as my own car (I had to sneak that in, sorry!), but will certainly get a few looks if that's your thing. A great drive, and a brilliant price too -although you could do yourself a favour by importing from Holland, ...

Advantages: Superlative driving pleasure and economical to run Disadvantages: High visibility
...lights on (Duooghh)at a Club Lotus track day of all places. It has been recalled twice for little bits of work, once for a heat shield, not that there were any problems with mine. My only irritation is that screws which hold the rear number plate lights, the petrol filler tube and windscreen wiper all rust if they get wet! So mine have all been replaced under warrenty. Also the throttle cable was getting a little sticky on occassion, so this work ... ...a considerable amount of pleasure and enjoyment. It is a dream to use in everyday traffic and will "tootle" quite happily in 3rd gear all over town, in a very comfortable way and if you see an open road, you can let the monster out your pocket!
The car is our 2nd one and only tends to come out when it is dry. And yes it is plenty warm even in winter as long as the sun is shining.
Of course nobody looks at you, but everyone notices you - it is not ...

Advantages: the best drivers car on the road Disadvantages: none, zilch, squat
...You buy it for the lotus tweaked k series, variable valve timed 1.8 Rover engine which generates 160bhp. (This is about 210bhp per tonne by my reckoning.)This free revving throaty engine is married to a chassis and suspension created by the very best in the business.
Half an hour getting used to the slightly notchy short shift gearbox and you will yearn for twisty roads and overtaking experiences. Driving becomes an end in itself not just a way ... ...power is coupled with vast ventilated discs and rear tyres the size of belgium, but and it is a big but, there is none of the following:-
Power steering
ABS
Airbags
Seat belt tensioners
Traction control
Electronic brake force distribution
Servo brakes
It is you, the road and an engine. You have to think about what you are doing, you have to anticipate, plan your corners, pick a line. squeeze the power on, treat the brakes with respect.
