Bose Compainion 5 Speakers - Excellent Quality Sound Advantages: Quality of sound A+++ / Appearance Disadvantages: Cables are unnecerssarily long I have had the Bose Companion 5 Speakers for a little while now and can honestly say I love them. I traded in my stereo for these as I tended to listen to my Ipod more then messing around with cds and have not looked back since. I was very happy to find that no docking station was required just simply connects as you would your head phones which was really handy for me and meant to extra cost to get started with using them. Accoustimass 5 - small and superb Advantages: Small; Great sound for size; Stylish design Disadvantages: Pricey I have had the BOSE Accoustimass 5 stereo system for quite a few years now. It is a testament to their quality that I have not needed to upgrade these. BOSE have released 2 further versions of this setup and there are specialised surround sound units for those who favour films before music. What You Get A powerful base unit that powers each the 2 cube speaker modules. The 2 cube speakers are attached and pivot in the middle horizontally. The idea is that you can 'reflect' the sound from the various walls in the room to give a perfect sound distribution. There is a supply of average quality speaker wire to connect from the base module to the speakers and a power cable. Small and Loud Advantages: size, sound Disadvantages: cost These are not cheap by any means but you get what you pay for. I did alot of research into buying a decent se of AV speakers, going out on numerous occasions to listen to diferent setups. I listened to dvd's in dd5.1 and also cd's, a fantastic cd track by the propellor heads was by far the best way of gauging how well the setups could handle music. The acoustimass stood out by a mile, it could handle anything that you through at it and ontop of ... ...of large box speakers. The satelites are about 3" sqaure and there are two to each of the five channels, also you get a dedicated sub box, about 24" by 16" by 7" which you can hide anywhere in the room, mine is under the coffee table. These did blow my budget of £500.00 out of the water, but I eventully raised the funds by another £300.00 to aquire them. Better sound by marketing?? Advantages: Relatively easy to fit in the dustbin Disadvantages: Everthing about it, starting with the price. ...a way typical of all Bose systems. There is a charateristic Bose sound which bears no relation to Hi-Fi whatsoever. It can be characterised as a bloated, flatulent bass which overpowers a weak veiled midrange all topped off with a screeching, strident top end. The design of the system goes against everything that quality manufacturers know to be essential get speakers to sound natural or even 'right'. When I sold Hi-Fi and people would ask about ... ...for Bloody 'Orible Sounding Electronics! Bose charges serious money for these systems, especially when you add one of their awful media players, and they really are not worth a tenth of the asking price.
