Decent Speakers
Advantages: All round excellent Disadvantages: Nothing major
These all round speakers could be classed as the industry standard in the music business for studio monitors. Without paying very large amounts of money you probably won't get much better than these. These speakers aren't designed for the pimp my speaker competition and they're not going to win any style awards but after all it is a speaker and it is the sound which is important! With magnetic shielding you dont have to worry about putting them near ... ...or for video editing. They can cope with surpisingly high wattages to give some real punch for their size and their frequency response is excellent.
Basses are surprisingly good considering the small size of this speaker. Mids are decent and have a very high definition and quality. Highs are accurate and real. This speaker doesn't sound tin like.
The only real niggle is the slightly flimsy wall mount which could have been thought through better. ...

JBL On Tour fails to deliver the goods.
Advantages: It plays music Disadvantages: It has a massive range of serious flaws in design.
The JBL on tour speakers are average, at the most. For their high cost, you wouldn't expect some of the severe design flaws present in it. The audio quality is relatively good considering it's size, and the maximum volume is very high, albeit containing sizable amounts of distortion on the higher volume settings. Of the desing flaws, there are many. Some are:
Not including a "turn off/on" option, instead giving the user some not-so-obvious ways ... ...impossible to actually close the JBL On Tour speakers because the end of the cable is deliberately in the way of the shutting mechanism, which is also a not so obvious way of turning the thing off. If I wanted to turn something off for later use, closing the lid over without officially switching the thing off would make me assume that the speakers are still on.
I do not recommend these speakers. Especially considering how much they cost. I do recommend ...

JBL on stage micro Speakers
Advantages: Good quality sound, well built, remote control, charges ipod, cheap Disadvantages: no direct link ipod to computer, cannot control speakers on unit itself (need remote)
Loving to listen to my ipod on the one hand, but also wanting to be free from having earphones falling out every ten seconds or having to take them out to hear people talk to me, I invested in these speakers, and I was not disappointed. It is a small, compact single unit which sits on myself in front of my books, taking up almost no space. The speaker quality from my experience is excellent - it can go much louder than I have ever needed in my busy ... ...the remote control, which means that I can adjust volume on a new song, or pause it when I want to leave the room, without going all the way to the speakers.
Two other things I like about it are that you can use it without a power cable for a certain amount of time and also, you can connect your CD or (if you even remember what they are!) tape player. (The cable is provided). It also charges your ipod when connected to the mains.
Two minor disadvantages ...

Very good Docking system at a low price.
Advantages: Great sound. Amazing range on remote. Great value. Disadvantages: Only runs on mains power
I bought this product as I was looking for a speaker system with docking facilities. I found it in my local Tesco at around £50. I was undecided for a week or two but then I decided to purchase. When I tried it out I was amazed that it had a remote that was not only simple to use but it also had a massive range. I could have the speakers playing in a room with the door closed and change the track, pause or mute from the other end of the corridor.
... ...same today after owning it for nearly a year. It even sounds great on full volume which is usually not the case in other products I have owned in the past. This is a great speaker system and I recommend it to anyone, the only problem I have had is that I lost the remote but was able to buy a new one for about £10 (don’t quote me on that).
There is one main disadvantage, which is that it only runs from a mains adapter but I believe the newer model ...

Arcus TC-60 Detailed and natural mid, crystal clear treble
Advantages: Powerfull bass without annoying "boom noise". Detailed and natural mid & crystal clear high Disadvantages: None.
Arcus TC-60 is a 3 way 3 drivers, bi-wirable speaker with gold plated sturdy binding posts. Like all German made products, I find it a seriously product when I first saw it. It delivers a superb clarity of sound in all frequencies, with very high transparencies in mid range. The bass driver can produce a powerful low bass but not excessive. The quality of female singers voice is extremely amazing, I almost believed Norah Jones was actually performing ...
