Roland DM-20 Active monitors. Excellent reference for the price.

Advantages: Low Cost, Well Built, Compact, Useful controls on front, No amp needed.
Disadvantages: Sub Bass lacks clarity.

Having been a user of these monitors for about two years now, I would say that they are excellent value for money, and provide an ideal entry into the world of active studio monitoring. Given the low cost, the bass is suprisingly full, and the midrange and treble are both crisp and responsive. The bass does roll off higher than many more expensive monitors, (sub 100Hz is almost non-existent) so this may not be ideal if you are using a lot of sub-bass ...
...on these speakers on a pro studio setup, I find that the mid and treble usually sound excellent but the bass lacks that certain punch and clarity. The cabinet is a solid, well-constructed wooden design, easily able to endure knocks and bumps sustained during house moves and other studio rearranging. This is a major plus. The inputs are reliable and good quality , and the eq/volume controls and headphone jack on the front are definitely a useful addition. ...

BASS In Your Face!

Home Cinema + Stereo

Advantages: clean sound, nice finish, good all round speaker
Disadvantages: a bit, just a bit "boomy" bass

I bought Monitor Audio RS6 speakers about 1.5 year ago now... And They still surprise me, getting better and better each day. In all reviews you can read about long run-in process. How very true. Each hour, day and week they will become more musical. Remember it is always worth to invest some money in cables, let them spread the wings, maybe the speakers are not top shelf, I would say more like a upper "budget" but nevertheless give them "some space". ...

Arcus TC-60 Detailed and natural mid, crystal clear treble

Advantages: Powerfull bass without annoying "boom noise". Detailed and natural mid & crystal clear high
Disadvantages: None.

Arcus TC-60 is a 3 way 3 drivers, bi-wirable speaker with gold plated sturdy binding posts. Like all German made products, I find it a seriously product when I first saw it.
