Advantages Remarkable facilities, low housing costs
Disadvantages elitism
Sporting atmosphere, in the literal sense yes, but only if you represent Great Britain. If you think you can go to Loughborough to play sport at any level you would be wrong.
Although there are opportunities is hall sports to play at a lower level, the university does not cater for those who are not ready for the olympics. Seriously though if you are thinking of coming here it is a wonderful university and has fantastic facilities whatever your needs, that is, unless you want to just play sport at the weekends. It is not neccessarily a bad thing that sport is so elitist here as it has helped raise the university standards and promote the university itself through international competitions. However, if you enjoy sport on a once-a-week basis may I suggest elsewhere?
If you do play for Great Britain... See You Around.

I've found that the sports facilities are a bit expensive to hire, but not that you have to be a potential olympist to use them. Instead you get the benefits of access to olympic standard sporting facilities whatever your level. Some of the clubs may be a bit competitive, I don't know, as I have never joined any sporting ones, but just to use the facilities with your friends you don't have to be any good. There's also a huge variety of sports you can try at Loughborough, from skydiving to trampolining.
